I don't have the full articles, just an index for them. You could request them from the Wisconsin State Historical Society for copying fees. The 5th of August, 1887 article states that Ollie folts, a 6 year old granddaughter of F. Most died at Hurley, Wisconsin.

There were at various time frames 4 or 5 rural schools in various places throughout the township. On the 1901 atlas, the Mish property is in Section 8. They could have been attending the Spaulding School near that area. The early records aren't readily available. There were some county school records kept in a lower room at the Third Street School in Black River, but whether the District Office there would access them, if they are still there, I have no idea.
When the rural schools closed, some students were transferred to Pittsville, which is in Wood County.

No stone was found in the City Point cemeteries for any of the Mish family. Although Mass was known to have been offered in the homes of early settlers as early as 1900, a frame church known as Saint Peter and Paul's wasn't built until 1911. It was built next to the Spaulding Catholic Cemetery which is located 4 miles west of the City Point Community Center on Hwy. 54 (T 22N-R1E, Sec. 30) In 1912, Saint Mary's Church was built near City Point. Both congregations were served by priests of the Saint Lawrence Parish in Wisconsin Rapids. Saint Mary's was disbanded and the City Point Spaulding mission was attached to Saint Joachim's Parish of Pittsville, WI in 1949.The Old City Point Cemetery and the City Point Catholic Cemetery are side by side in Section 35 off Hwy. 54.
I see only John & Elizabeth's son Paul (b. Jan 1883) on the 1900 census in City Point. Possibly Thomas had left prior to that census.

Just wondering what the name of the Catholic Church was that was connected with Martyr Cemetery in City Point, WI, and where the church was located. My Mish family farmed in the Town of City Point from about 1884 to 1908. Are there any of the Mish family in this cemetery? I am searching for a Thomas Mish / Misch, b. 22 Dec 1877 in German Poland. He was seven years old when he came to City Point in 1884 with his parents, John and Lizzie Mish. Barbara

I have some indexing of early newspaper articles for Jackson County, but only with brief notes. The divorce article was in the Wisconsin Leader Newspaper for that date(25 Mar 1887) and I think if you wrote to the State Historical Society at Madison, WI, they would be able to give you a copy of the article from microfilm. I see that Timothy Folts & wife Ada Estelle Gould were living in Monroe County, WI. Go to the Monroe County Local History & Museum site and you will find Folts info. Ada's date were in error on the year of death, should be 1931 not 1963? Thought that looked bizarre. I believe Clark's parents are buried at the Big Creek Cemetery there. Clark appears to have remarried in 1888 and was in Arkansas.

Oh wow!!!! I didn't know about the divorce. I had thought I read that she died shortly after their baby. From the looks of this though, it appears they may have had another child, if the granddaughter did indeed belong to Lilla.

Can I ask where you found the newspaper articles? Are they online somewhere? You've given me a lot to research. I can't thank you enough!

According to the Badger State Banner Newspaper dated 21 March 1895, Bertha died 15 March 1895 of consumption, leaving a husband and 5 children. The children were: Olaus H. b. 2 Dec 1879-4 Nov 1964; Caroline b. Mar 1881; Odell H. Dec 1882- 1900; Calmer b. 19 Sep 1884-2 Apr 1922; Emma H. b. Sep 1886. You could find the graves on the Find A Grave site at Little Norway Church, Albion, Jackson County, Wisconsin. Bertha has a death record at the courthouse, Vol. 2, pg. 112. The 1900 census indicates they were married in 1878. Hans died 21 May 1920 and is buried in the same lot.

Is this posting for Franklin, Jackson Co., in west-central Wisconsin as originally posted, or for the Town of Franklin in Milwaukee Co.?

The newspaper titles referenced in this thread didn't exist in 1867 or 1872.

There are no entries or references to Kneiser in my current version of "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
Hello Katrina, I'm not sure what kind of census data you are looking for. I went on ancestry.com and quickly found the family in the 1905 state census and the 1910 federal census. They are in Jackson Co. Northfield township in each. For 1905 they are on page 6 of 11, living with their son, Olas Larson:
Olas head of household age 31
Petra wife age 24
Alvin son age 3
Herman son age 1
John son age 1/12
Albert brother age 22
Oluf father age 64
Anna mother age 57
Oscar brother age 15
Selma sister age 12

In the 1910 census they are on page 13 of 21:
Oluf Larson age 69 mar 39 yrs immigrat 1868
Anna age 62 mar 39 yrs 7 of 10 children alive immigrat 1868
Albert age 27
Selma age 17

Let me know if there is something specific you would like to know or if I can help you further.
Jane

We always need a parish name to be sure we have the same person you are asking about. Her name is far from being unique. All you provided was her very common name and a birthdate, but you didn't provide the necessary location.

There is no census cd for that time period. I assume you are interested in finding her in the household examination records, a parish record which is in the format of a census but which is FAR more detailed and which was updated continually (not just every ten years). You are in luck because Arkiv Digital (a service with scanned parish record books) has a free weekend this very weekend. You can search for free.

http://www.arkivdigital.net/news-item/arkivdigital-for-free-...

"Source: Household Examination Roll, p. 608"

The above source from the household examination book tells the page number in Järna parish at the time period she left Sweden.

Judy

If your people were German and if they could read--they probably read the Milwaukee Herold und Seebote Newspaper or the Milwaukee Germania Abendpost. There were other Germany papers in the early years which are on microfilm at the main Milwaukee Public Library. If you know a date, you should go online to the main library and contact their DITTO services. Pricing is cheap, but you must have a date before they will do a search and make copies for you. If there was a obituary--it will be in the old German Script and written in the German language.

There was an R. D. Shaw that moved to the Humbird area (Clark County) and then died in the Dakotas in December of 1887. This is a possibility. Maybe checking the 1880 census in the Dakotas will shed some light. Just a suggestion.

I checked the Jackson Co. death index for your Mary Emily (Hoffman) King but did not find a death for that year. There were few deaths recorded in Jackson Co. for that early time period. I did find a Mary A. King who died 7 Jan 1887. If you want me to follow up on her, I would be happy to do that. Let me know via email or this board.
Jane
janeprinski@gmail.com

Have you received a reply to your query? I checked for an obit at the Jackson Co. History Room and she has an obit in 2 local newspapers. If you want to send me your address I can mail you the obit.
Jane
janeprinski@gmail.com

There was no birth listed in the Jackson Co. birth index for a Foertsch for that time period. Very few births were recorded that early for Jackson Co. Sorry.
Jane
