There is a possibility that your John Sanderson's parents where Timothy Farrar Sanderson and Sarah Randall. I'm basing this purley only on this messege board post:

http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.new...

I've been looking for proof, but I need a little more to say this is it for sure. My guess is that John's middle name was Farrar. So far I'm not finding any confirmation.

Additionally, my John Sanderson (which I'm thinking is the same as yours)had a brother Josephus, who also moved to Wisconsin sometime between 1847 and 1850.
Tad

Hello ~ I am not a descendant of the Nauertz family! But I happen to live in Juneau Co, just a few miles outside of the city of Mauston. I had viewed your query a few days ago, so while I was in town today I went to the library to check on any available records on your Nicholas for you.......!

**********************************************************
FROM: JUNEAU COUNTY CHRONICLE - Mauston, WI [24 Feb 1946]

Died.
Mr. Nicholaus Nauertz was born at Wintrich in the Kingdom of Prussia, Sept. 30, 1834. At the age of eleven he came to this country with his parents and settled on a farm in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

In 1856 he married Marie Katherine Bettendorf and settled on a farm in Lemonwear, Juneau Co., Wis. They remained on this farm until April 1893 when they moved to Mauston where he remained till Feb. 21, 1916 when he followed his wife to the life beyond.

Six children were born to the couple of whom three died in infancy. Florence Nauertz Nelson died July 31, 1897, and their daughters Almeda Nauertz and Mrs. Timon Davis and five grand children are left to mourn his loss.

In response to the call for volunteers to help crush the rebellion, Mr. Nauertz enlisted in Co. C. 16th Wis. Infantry Oct. 17, 1861 and served his company bravely and faithfully for three years and was honorably discharged Nov. 29, 1864.

Mr. Nauertz was widely known as a man who could be relied upon for honesty and integrity. Whatever came to his hands to do he did thoroughly and with a will. Since the death of his wife Mr. Nauertz has had the loving care and devotion of his daughters Mrs. Timon Davis and Almeda Nauertz. While the latter kept the house for him and did all in her power to make life pleasant, to her and his friends it has been plain that his steps have been gradually growing feebler and that he was hastening to join her whom he loved so much. He was confined to the house less than a week. The end came peacefully and quietly Monday morning Feb. 21.

Funeral service were held at his and his daughter's home at 2 P.M. yesterday, service conducted by Rev. G. H. R. Kershaw, and six of his comrades bore his body to its last resting place.

[above was transcribed as written in newspaper-with errors]

***********************************************************
MAUSTON CEMETERY - Mauston, Juneau Co., WI [Lot 22]

Nicholas Nauertz 09/30/1834 - 02/21/1916
Pvt Co C 16th Wis Inf Regt
[CW Pension Record on Ancestry.com]

Katharine Nauertz 07/25/1834 - 02/24/1909
Christian Nauertz __________ - 05/25/1862 [1y-11m-27d]
Mary Nauertz __________ - 03/01/1865 [6y-8m-8d]
Agnes Nauertz __________ - 04/20/1866

**********************************************************
By checking several Ancestry.com databases & Family Trees I found the following additional information, which is only a small fraction of what is available for this family.

NICHOLAS'S PARENTS: Christian Nauertz,Sr [1805 - 1863]
Elizabeth C. There are several people who seem to be researching this family & have info posted on the 'Family Trees'. If I can be of any further assistance to your search here in Juneau County, please don't hestitate to ask....I love to help others whenever I can!

Just a quick comment....I thought it was ironic that you posted your query on 03 April. That is my birthdate! And in another query you have, regarding Nauertz's in Fayette Co., IA - ironic as well as my maternal grandmother was born and raised in Arlington, Fayette Co., IA! SMALL WORLD!

Trish

I am hitting my head against the wall!!! I am researching my husband's side. His great, grandmother is Laura Sanderson. She married Frank P. Katchinska in 1891 according to the 1900 census for New Lisbon, Juneau Co, Wisconsin. It states he is from a Russian Province in Poland Germany. There is a 1880 census for New Lisbon that shows a Frank Katchinski (I see the "ski" in many places for "ska")whose father is John and mother Melissa. Their birthdates seem a bit off, but I thought it could be transcription error.

In the New Lisbon City Cemetery there is a Frank Katchinska (1867-1911 which line up with what I know)and a Ragust Katchinska which could very well be his father.

The 1910 census in New Lisbon there is a Rufhus Katchinska living with Hayden Waterman. To get even more strange. When Frank Katchinska passed away his wife, Laura married Hayden Waterman in 1912. "Rufhus" is stated as Hayden's father-in-law. Maybe Hayden's 1st wife was Frank's sister?

Frank P.(I assume Paul) and Laura had children named, Harry Franklin, Avery Paul, Elsie, Frankie (died in infancy), Rachel Edith, Unknown (died in infancy), and Alta Maude.

This is all so confusing. My goal is to find what happened to Frank's mother, Melissa. And to find out if Rufhus and Ragust could be the same person? Eventually it would be a joy to find out where they entered the US and which part of the Russian Province from which they could have come. I don't know exactly how to go about checking all of this.

Any tips? Thank you in advance!!!!

If it is supposed to be his DoB, that would be too late for his date of birth since his son, WILLIAM EDWIN HARRISON's dates are 03/02/1868 - 12/15/1916.

I believe that EDWARD HARRISON was born in 1832.
(Which would be closer if he was 16 in 1857, and 63 in 1895).

My great grandparents, Patrick (abt 1820 - 1880) and Margaret Sweeney Callahan (abt 1830 - 1906), came to Juneau County about 1855 from Massachusetts, then moved on to Waseca County Minnesota about 1865. With the same surname, same county in Wisconsin and similar timing your John might be related to my Patrick.

I have found nothing about origins in Ireland or date(s) of migration. There was a daughter Johanna born in New York state about 1849, but she might have been from a previous marriage for Margaret, if an 1852 Massachusetts marriage record is theirs. They went on to have six sons.

My CALLAHAN's left County Clare in the 1880's and I think they came to New York first, then to Illinois and Missouri by 1890's.
Patrick "Daniel" CALLAHAN (1842-1873 Ireland) md. Margaret "Peggy" GRIFFIN
Known children:
(1) Dan CALLAHAN - had a daughter Nora
(2) Nellie A. CALLAHAN (1862-1941) bn Ireland, immigrated circa 1884; Never married. Carrollton, IL 1900-1920; Kansas City MO 1940-41
(3) Bridget Agnes CALLAHAN (1864-1947) bn County Clare, Ireland. immigrated circa 1882; md John "Thomas" Patrick LOGAN 1890 in Kansas City, Missouri. Bridget had a cousin named Simon SHANNON, based on family information. So she must have had a CALLAHAN or GRIFFIN aunt who married a SHANNON.
If anything sounds familiar please contact me.lgleason@marykay.com
The work is arranged alphabetically by state. For each soldier who fought and died in this Great War his picture, name, rank, and means of death (killed in action, died of disease, died of wounds, died of accident, or wounded in action) is provided. While the pictures under each state are not arranged alphabetically, there is an alphabetical listing following the pictures for each state, arranged first by mean of death, then rank, and finally last name. This listing is the official list of men who lost their lives in World War I compiled from the Official Bulletin provided by the government. In addition to the pictures of all the deceased men of this war, this work also provides a parallel record of war events among the leading countries involved in the war from 1914 to 1918.
