Have tracked my Belgian Walloon ancestors into Kewaunee County, WI, basically Red River Township where they first settled in 1850's. Some went into Champion area of Brown County, some into Union Township of Door County, then spread out from there. Maximilien Joseph Renier, Jr. (b: 1830) immigrated aboard "Gertrude" in May 1856 with first wife, Catherine Victoire Baras (b: 1834) from Beauvechain, Brabant, Belgium. Eleven days earlier, Marie Henriette Dejardin, then 8, immigrated with her birth family aboard the "Washington". The Dejardins were from Genval and Rixensart, both in Brabant, Belgium.

Seen name Dejardin for this family spelled Desjardins, DeJardine, Desjardin, DuJardin, etc. Marie Henriette Dejardin (b: 1848, d: 1900) was called Harriet.

Her parents were Jean Baptiste Dejardin (b: about 1819) and Clementine Theys (b: about 1828). Siblings were: 1) Jean Antoine (Anton) Dejardin (b: 1844, d: 1919) m: Clara Moreau (b: 1851, d: 1933); 2) Marie Barbe Dejardin (b: 1849 , d: 1922) m: Desire Vandervest (b: 1844, d: 1928); 3) Pierre Louis (Peter) Dejardin (b: 1852, d: 1923) m: Marie Eugenie (Jennie) Heraly (b: 1846, d: 1926); 4) Basil Dejardin (b: 1856) m: Pulcherie Aurelia Rubens (b: 1854); 5) Julie Dejardin (b: 1859); 6) Marie Therese Dejardin (b: 1865) m: John B. Lefevre (b: 1863).

Max Renier had Marie-Therese (Mary) Renier (b: 1858, m: Theophile Jacquart in 1876) and Josephine Renier (b: 1861, m: Hubert Jacquart in 1876) with Victoire Baras. Marie Henriette (Harriet) Dejardin had Clementine Moens (Mousse, etc.) (b: 1865, m: Prosper Barette and later George Swille) and Joseph Moens (Mouns, Mousse, etc.) (b: 1868) with Adolphe Moens.

After both Victoire and Adolphe died, Max and Harriet married about 1868. Kids were (first) Florient Renier (b 1869), (second ) Florient (Florian) Renier (b: 1871), Henry M. Renier (b: 1877), Alice Marie Renier (b: 1879) and Octavia Renier (b: 1883). Second Florian married Marie (Mary) Charles, daughter of Charles Joseph and Marie Catherine Charles of Red River. Others moved to Jamestown, ND, with Harriet about 1888.

Harriet Dejardin later married Jean Joseph (Joe ) Maximin (Maxine, Maxime, Maxum, Maxme, etc.) of Union Township, Door County, and moved to Jamestown with him. They had two more kids in Jamestown, Victor (b: 1889) and Charles Joseph (Buck) (b: 1891).

Max Renier had a brother, Henry Joseph Renier (b: 1834) who followed him to Red River much later. Henry married Philomene (Mayme) Jacquart (b: 1841) back in Beauvechain. They had three kids born in Belgium, a bunch more in Wisconsin. Henry died young. Philomene remarried an Augustin Marchand (a neighbor who had just lost his wife) about 1884. All her kids were Reniers although some were erroneously called Marchand.

Besides Moens, Swilles (Suille, Swillen), Charles (Childs, Challe) and Barettes (Barrette, Barrett) already mentioned, know my people married into DeBakers (debaker, Dedecker, Debecker), Maccos (Macceaux, etc.) and other families in and around the Red River Township area.

Names do not have to match. I have found lots of variations. Does anyone out there have a connection with anyone I have mentioned? If so, please contact Ed at edanner@up.net.
