I am John David Schult (b. 1965), son of David Werner Schult (b. 1937), grandson of Werner Emil Schult (b. 1909), great grandson of John Martin Schult (b. 1859), great great grandson of Dedrick H. Schult (b. 1930 d. 1898, immigrated to NYC from Hanover in 1874).

I suspect that Dedrick is a mispelling of Dietrich? Anyway, I have information on my family tree up until my great great grandfather. He had 6 children; John Martin, William H., Adeline, Annetta, George, and Alfred. My great grandfather John had 9 children; Martin Carl, John, Frieda, Anton, Walter, Martha, Clara, Esther, and Werner (my grandfather).

If anyone thinks they are in this tree, please contact me :-) I know there are many Schult's in Merrill, Maine, and Wausau, and I suspect that many of them are related to my family.

Looking for date of death- Angus McDonald (pre-1935)

I have an obituary for this relative but no exact date of death is specified. Any help or additional info on Angus McDonald would be greatly appreciated!

Here is the obituary:

DIED IN THE WEST
Angus McDonald, Wausau, Wisc.

The Wausau, Wis, Pilot of Feb 7 says:-
Angus D. McDonald who has made his home in Wausau for over 40 years, died at St. Mary's hospital on Saturday afternoon. Mr. McDonald attended the funeral of a relative one week before the time of his death. He was taken with a chill when coming from the cemtery and was taken immediately to his boarding place and went to bed. He continued to grow worse, and on Saturday was taken to St. Mary's hospital. Latter his illness developed into a severe case of pneumonia, and notwithstanding everything that medical aid, expert nurses and tender care could render, he passed from his earthly home.
Angus McDonald was born in Invernesshire, Scotland, in March, 1851: the year folllowing he came to America with his parents and settled in Cornwall Township, Ontario, where he resided until he came to Wausau in 1868, when only 17 years of age. Like all young men who came to Wausau in those days he worked in the woods in the winter time, and on the river in the summer time. As early as 1870 he commenced going into the woods with Peter McKeller, assisting him in the work of running lines, estimating, etc., and it was not many years before he was doing the work himself, and for the last 25 or 30 years he was classed among the best cruisers in Wisconsin.
Angus McDonald has been known to many of our citizens ever since he came here as a boy. Ever kindhearted, generous and industrious, he made fast friends of all his acquaintances, and his death will be sincerely mourned by them. Mr McDonald was never married. He leaves five brothers, Randall, of Spokane; John, of Duluth; Alex and Michael, of St. Andrews, Ontario, and John of Boston; the only one present at the funeral being John McDonald of Duluth. The funeral took place from St. James Church on Monday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. Father Brennan officiating.

I am searching for information for Charles E Whittaker b 14 Oct 1870, Portage County. Son of Schuyler and Anna Whittaker(Galland)

He married Louisa Richmond(b 1874)on 25 Dec 1893, in Portage County. They moved to Wausau where I have found them on 1905, 1910, 1920, 1930 US Census. Only child listed on any of the census was 1930, June Richmond, whom I am guessing was Louisa's niece.

I am looking for their d.o.d. along with any information of their life. I have been researching the Stevens Point Journal and found them mentioned a number of times as visiting their relatives in Point, Plover and Buena Vista areas.

If anyone has access to the local newspapers and you come across an obituary for Charles and/or Louisa, I would really appreciate that info and whatever else information there may be. Thanks alot.
Doris (Whitaker) Wyss

Help! I'm looking for information on Robert & August Kroening. Robert came to America in 1881, married (Ulrike Seeger), had four children and by 1913 his entire family had died. August came to America in 1881, married (Bertha Lambrecht), had 9 children, his wife died in childbirth with the last and he killed himself six years later in 1908.

Robert was born in 1852 & August in 1857. Both immigrated to Wausau, WI separately. What I really would like is to know thier family. They both came from Germany, but where in Germany I don't know. There are quite a few Kroenings in the area & I'd be interested to know if there is a relation.

Please post a response or e-mail me at carlapbf@gmail.com!
Hello to anyone that can help. My great-grandmother was Caroline Wilhemina Gall. Her middle name may not be spelled correctly. She married Peter Hirsch. They had four children: Ella, Lawrence, Raymond and Ruth (my grandmother who is now 99 yrs old!). I cannot find anything about Caroline's parents. We believe she was born in Athens or Marathon Wisconsin near Wausau. I live in Mosinee. My name is Karen Lorge and my email is dubaydiva@juno.com. My mother, Ruth's daughter lives in Schofield. We would be truly happy if anyone can help us find out any details concerning Caroline Gall.

My father, Joseph Kraft was born in Stratford Wisconsin in 1911. His father was Ferdinand A. Kraft, and his mother was Julia Nowak. My father was named after his mother's father, Joseph Nowak. Both grandparents were born in Wisconsin. My grandfather in Milwaukee, and my grandmother in Marathon, Wisconsin; I found this out through death certificates. I have not had any luck finding birth records for either person, but am told that that is not uncommon for the 1800s. I do have death cerficates for both which gives me a lot of information, but am now at a standstill. Finding that they both were born in Wisconsin was a surprise to me as I had been told as a child that they had been born in Germany. I am not sure which is correct. I do not know much about my grandmother, but have an 1880 Census of my greatgrandfather with my grandfather listed as one of the children. My Great grandfather was Albert Kraft, who was 47 at the time of the 1880 census. His wife was Josephine VesLoski, age 35 They had a son Anton -16, a son August-14, a daughter Julia-10, another daughter Maragaretha ? (am not sure of the spelling as the Census is not real clear)age 6. Then my grandfather was born, he was 5 at the time of the 1880 Census. Then another daughter was born Elizabetha age 3. There was a brother August, age 35
living with them at the time. The census was from Milwaukee county, Wisconsin.
If there is anyone who is related to either person I would love to hear from you. As there were a lot of siblings I am hoping for some results. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

We are looking for some information from the records of st Peters/St Patrick Cemetery in Halder. There was a "newer" stone (maybe early 1950s) placed for "Mother & Father Lupin".

This would be Batties (Baptiste) and Catherine both of who died prior to 1900. The 1900 census shows Mary Alice (Keogh) Lupin (Lupine), and Frank Lupin (Lupine) living with neighbors after the death of there father.

We would like to find out who placed the "newer" stone in the cemetery. If it was Frank, we would like to find out his last known location since we have no record of him past the 1900 census.

If anyone can help us find out this information from the cemetery we would appreciate any help.

I am looking for information on the people who founded the town of Wein in Marathon Co. just east of Wausau and south of Edgar. My gggrandfather Frederick Wilhelm Herrmann was supposedly one of them. He and 6 or 7 other men left Pittsburg, PA for Wisconsin because the railroad was offering land. They went through Indiana and some may have stayed there. If anyone has any reference books that cover the Wein area and its early residents I would appreciate the titles. Any information on the surnames I have listed above would also be welcome. I have some information I would be willing to share.

Please respond to both: lisa.herrmann@dot.state.wi.us and slranch@usa.net

I'm looking for information on Herman & Emilia Lemke. They both immigrated from Prussia. Herman was born about 1847. Emilia was born about 1853.

They had three children as of the 1880 census: Gustaf b. 1875, Herman b. 1877, and Aurora b. 1879.

They lived in Wassau, Marathon County as of the 1880 census. But I can't find any other information. Gustaf married Minnie Zinc.

So far I can't make the connection between my Herman Lemke and the ones referenced on this board.

The Lost Children (1865) - Puddy Lemmer, Robert Schilling, Heil

I am trying to track down some information from a true story from my great-great-great grandmother Mary Mess Roth (1859-1949) that her daughter Catherine Roth (1882-1992) eventually wrote down. Mary and her sister Ann Mess Hahn (1856-1926) were lost in the woods in November of 1865 for 9 days before being found. Some names listed in the search party are Robert Schilling, John Bloom, Puddy Lemmer, and someone named Heil that had a cow's horn.

I have a link to her story of "The Lost Children" on my website located at:
http://www.grassy.net/lost-children-1865.pdf
http://www.grassy.net/genealogy.html

I am inclined to think that Peter Heil owned the horn of the search party. I am curious if their are any relatives of Peter Heil that might be able to provide the site of his family home. Is that cow's horn still in someone's possession?

I cannot locate the name Puddy Lemmer in any documents to date. Though, my search is still very much in its infancy. I am wondering if Puddy is a nickname rather than the real name? Anyone Lemmer relatives around that might know about this? Mary Mess Roth's story says he was a young man during the time of the search in 1865. Maybe the son of John Lemmer? Also, curious what the location of John Lemmer's home might have been. There may be a family relation to one of the Mess descendants to a Lemmer as well.

The story says that Robert Schilling was in the Civil War. Anyone have information regarding his service? Also, curious what the location of Robert Schilling'shome might have been. I am thoping information ultimately this information will lead to exactly where John (Johann) Mess and his family might have had a home. There may be a family relation to one of the Mess descendants to a Schilling as well. I should have a better idea later this summer as I enter in a plethora of family information provided from another relative, M.K. Pyan.

Richard Grassy III
rgrassy@hotmail.com

Seeking info re settlers in Marathon County with the HANNEMANN or GRUENEBERG surnames. My maiden name was Grueneberg and my ancestors came from Kr. Regenwalde, Pommern in 1867. Letters indicate others had already come to the U.S. Is it possible I have/had Grueneberg relatives in Marathon Co?

Also, I suspect the Julius Hannemann for whom I am seeking info came from Kr. Regenwalde. He was living in Winnebago Co. when he wrote a letter to my Gruenebergs in 1868. They were either friends in Pommern or relatives. Can you help?
Thank you.

DeLorris Grueneberg Rekoske

Does anyone know if all the KROENING families in Marathon County during the late 1800s were related? I have gotten back as far as my GGgrandparents August KROENING b. 1852 in Germany, d.1918 in Marathon Co. He married Katerine NEWMEIR b.1860. Together they had 6 children Louisa, b. 6-11-1882 (my g-grandma who later married William F. PUPP), Joseph, b. 1884, John, b. 1887, George W., b. 1889 (a census enumerator), and Mary, b. 1894. I don't know who August's parents are or if they made the journey to the United States. Is anyone else researching this family?

He is with his family in the 1880 Census of Marathon County. I have searched death records, etc. of the county and have not been able to locate him. I think he must have disappeared on his way either to or from Lincoln County, Washington where the family was to relocate. After several years, his wife, Wilhelmine TESSMER remarried to Wilhelm Karl Koenig in 1895 in Marathon County. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

I am trying to track down information for my maternal grandmother's family. Her name was Bernice Filskowski (married as Pospyhalla), born in Cassel in 1905, died 1984 in St. Paul, MN. Her father was Steve (Stephan) Filtz and her mother was Josephin(e) Brzezinski. Josephine's father was Tomas Brazenski (born in Poland in about 1848).

Because of the many variations of the Filskowski name (Filtz, Felch, etc.) I am having a difficult time tracing the family beyond a 1920 census.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks.

F. Lee Goff, Photographic Artist, Wausau, Wis. photographed Sophia Wegner/Wagner (b.1823 - d. 1886). I am seeking dates of his business in order to more accurately date this carte-de-visite with rounded corners & gold edge. The back has an oriental theme with Goff's name on the large fan the kimono clad woman is holding.
Mrs. Wagner lived in Manitowoc, Wis. Her sons Charles and Henry lived in Medford, Wis. in the 1880's.

Duffy-Kopplin-Miller Families

I'm seeking information about Michael Duffy (Born: New York abt 1835 - died 22 Oct 1891, Wausau, Wisc.)

He married Pauline Kopplin in about 1860, I believe in Wausau, although it's possible they married in Marquette County. (Pauline was living in Berlin, Wisc., with her parents John and Anne for the 1860 state census, and I know their first child was born 28 July 1861.

Pauline and Michael children: Mary, Anna (or Annie), Charles, Pauline, Henry, Frank, Robert, Ed, Laura, Mabel and Myrtle. All (except perhaps Myrtle)were born in Wausau.

I have found extensive information about the family in Wausau, and later, when they moved to Hurley. In an Ironwood, Mich., obit in 1925 for his wife, Pauline, the family plot was listed as "Pine Grove" cemetery in Wausau. They were Presbyterian.

I have extensive information about Pauline and the children as she was quite a character and after she was widowed, ran a large rooming house in Hurley for years. One of their children, Frank, became Iron (or Vilas) County sheriff.

Here is where I am stumped: Census reports say Michael was born in New York. He had two siblings (at least) Peter and Sarah.

Sarah Duffy lived in Wausau, too, was married to a Herman Miller in about 1863. I believe Herman Miller was a county clerk or assessor for a time. I have census records and death records for most of these people, but I have run into a brick wall regarding Michael's and Sarah's parents.

Did they bring him to Wausau? Or did Michael move there as an adult and bring sister Sarah with him?

A third sibling, Peter, is supposed to exist, but I've never been able to find him.

I have been unable to find any census reports that match up, or birth records for New York.

I would love to find confirmation of Michael and Pauline's wedding date, and place. And to figure out the names of Michael's parents and whether they ever lived in Wausau, either, although I doubt that.

Are there any records that would tend to show a mother's maiden name or parent's name that I should be honing in on? Would church records of a wedding, if they exist, include that?

I am considering a trip to the Wausau area to try to visit cemeteries, etc., that might be of help.

Colleen Kelly
Minneapolis

http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...
