Hello - I have run into a wall regarding a great great grandfather: Newton Jasper Sutherland so I a going to go out on a limb and see if there is any chance someone out there may be able to point me in the right direction.

The reason that I am posting in the Marquette County thread is because the last census that I can find him on shows him living in Packwaukee, WI with his last wife.

Background info:

Newton Jasper Sutherland
Born: 29 Sep 1859 in Oneida, Eaton, Michigan
Died: Unknown. I am trying to figure this out.

Last wife:
Georgiana "Annie" W Parker
Born: 7 Sep 1880 Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa, Michigan
Died: Unknown. I am trying to figure this out.
Married: 25 May 1907 at Escanaba, Michigan, USA

One thing that stands out on the 1920 census to me is that they supposedly "Own" their home. I am wondering if a record exists that might tell me when they bought the home and when it was later sold. Knowing this might clue me in on where he went from here (if he was alive before she went to Prarie du Chien).

The last census that I can find them on is 1920:

1920 United States Federal Census
-----------------------------------------------------
Name: Newton J Sordanland
Home in 1920: Packwaukee, Marquette, Wisconsin
Age: 60 years
Birthplace: Michigan
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: George A
Father's Birth Place: Michigan
Mother's Birth Place: New York
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Sex: Male
Home owned: Own
Newton J Sordanland 60
George A Sordanland 32
--------------------------------------------------------

This is the last record of him that I can find.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that he died between 1920 and 1930, explaining why I cannot find him on the 1930 FC.

We know that he had died definitely before 1943 and she lived at least into the 60's (family members visited her in the 60's and she was widowed) and she was living in Prairie du Chien, WI at that time.

Newton Sutherland was the owner of an outfit in Wisconsin called the "Sutherland Stock Company" - an acting/stage performance company. I am guessing that this led to them moving around a bit.

If anyone can think of any resources that I have not thought of, I would greatly appreciate it. I am completely stumped on this one.

Thank you very much.
