I've seen quite a few references to your Bernard F. Gorey, and I know there was a father or son of his by that name too. And I do remember at least one contact I had with that Gorey family, probably the one you mention in 2001. I have not found a connection between our families.

My ancestor Bernard Gorey (who had a son by that name too) came to the U.S. from Ireland in 1851, with his wife Anna Connors and children. They settled first in the Newport, NY, area and moved to Montello a few years later. I learned from his tombstone that he came from what was then called Queens County and is now called County Laois (pronounced "leesh"). I found more proof of that origin by finding the baptism record of his daughter Esther in the records of the Roman Catholic church in Port Arlington, which is on the edge of County Laois. I've found evidence of Goreys in quite a few areas of Ireland, so there's no one place where they all came from.

Maybe some day we'll find a link between our Bernard Goreys.
