James S. LaTender, age 78, formerly of Neopit, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Birch Hill Healthcare Center, Shawano.

He was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Keshena, the son of the late Simon and Bertha (Stone) LaTender Sr. He lived on the Menominee Indian Reservation all of his life and was employed by the Menominee Tribal Enterprise until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Neopit.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Simon Jr., Sylvester and Winslow, and three sisters, Elizabeth, Irene and Sadie.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Neopit, with the Rev. David Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call at the LaTender residence in Neopit after 4 p.m. today until the time of services on Saturday. There will be a parish wake service on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the residence. Swedberg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
