Actually, there is no mention in the local German papers of Tankert von der Ohe. There were 4-5 active German papers at that time in a variety of editions.
A death notice (frequently confused with an "obituary") would've been the responsibility of the family (or mortician). But it's also true that the papers would sometimes write obituary articles concerning life events or career of the deceased - including if they lived a very simple, but long life.
