William Schreier died in 2001. His obituary was in the La Crosse Tribune on July 2, 2001. I don't know any more going back than what is here.
William Mathias 'Bill' Schreier
SPARTA, Wis. - William Mathias "Bill" Schreier, 90, of Sparta, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at his home, near Sparta. He was born June 17, 1911, at St. Mary's Ridge, township of Wells, Monroe County, Wis., to Mathias and Appolonia (Flock) Schreier. On Jan. 25, 1938, he was united in marriage to Marcella Fuenger at St. Mary's Ridge. Bill was a dairy farmer all his life, farming in the St. Mary's Ridge area for about 65 years until his retirement in March 1973. He also was a Farmtown Mutual Insurance Agent and board member from 1967 until 1997. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Holy Name Society of B.V.M. Church at St. Mary's Ridge and was currently a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta. Bill loved to play baseball in his earlier years. After his retirement, he also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and woodcrafting.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella of Sparta; nine children, Don (Julie) Schreier of Wilton, Wis., Jim (Janet) Schreier of Norwalk, Wis., Loraine (Paul) Wiedemann of Cashton, Wis., Jack (Sharon) Schreier of Kirkland, Ill., Barb (Chuck Siess) Frederick of Camp Douglas, Wis., Mary (Paul) Hoeft and Matt (Kathy) Schreier, both of Sparta, Sue (Jeff) Winters of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Steve (Kerry) Schreier of Sparta, Wis.; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mathias and Appolonia; three brothers, Peter, Father Albin and Joseph; three sisters, Christina Worden, Sister Loraine and Isabelle Schlichenmeyer; two grandsons; and one granddaughter.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, July 4, 2001, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sparta. The Rev. James Leary, OFM, CAP will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary's Ridge. Family and friends are in-vited for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials given may be designated by the family at a later date.
