The attendants were Earl Waterson, brother of the bride, and Regina Cieseski. The double ring ceremony was used. The bridegroom formerly lived in Eagle, Wis., but he has made his home in Plover in recent months and for some time has held a position in the Wisconsin River Paper and Pulp company mill at Whiting. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan will reside at Whiting.

Jessica, they may not be there, or at lesat not as a family. The 1930 census indicates they were married about 1923, and Joyce was born five years before that. I'm going to bet Joyce was adopted, especially given the very young age of the father at her birth (19) and the fact that there were no more children.

Yes, that is the correct family I'm researching, but I was specifically looking for them in the 1920 census. Since they lived in Plover in the 30's and 40's, I checked the 1920 census for Plover as well but found nothing. I have no knowledge of John Sullivan before 1930.

I am looking for a family in the 1920 census that lived in Portage County. I am searching for John and Ella Sullivan and their daughter Joyce. In Joyce's obituary, it says she was born in Lanark but grew up in Whiting.

In 1920, I believe Whiting did not exist...but I think it is around Stevens Point currently. I have searched manually in the censuses for Plover and Lanark and have found nothing. Stevens Point's census is very large. Can anyone tell me what ward Whiting may have been in?

My husband's 3rd gr-grandfather is Carl Betker. Carl was born in 1859 and August was born November 1861. This does fall into place that Martha would/could be their sister. I believe the original poster was saying that they resided in the area in 1882, not that August was born then.

I don't think the dates match for them.

My gr-gr-gr grandmother was Martha (Betker) Zywicki, and she was born in 1856. If August was born in 1882. That would be a big difference.

Any new thinking since 2003??

My great-grandfather was Michael Zloty who was born 1864 in Pakarsys, Lithuania, near the town of Nedzinge. He settled in Punxsutawney, PA. His mother was Kostanzja Grazewicz (b. 1823). Her mother was Apolonia Zhylinska (b.abt. 1800). Variations of that name include Zielinski. Michael's grandmother on his father's side was Bogumila Witkowska, born abt 1800. Many families named Grazewicz, Witkowski, and Zhylinski lived in farm villages north and northeast of Nedzinge. They are all in the church records, available online. Last year I spoke with a woman in Poland who regularly visits Zhylinski and Grazewicz family in the Nedzinge area, so they are still there. I believe there were Witkowski relatives who moved to Cambridge, Mass., after 1900, and who can be found in the census reports and passenger lists.

Yes, I have that. She lived in Grove at that time, but was the head of household. I'm trying to find out what happened to her husband.
Did you find the 1855 census online? I paid a researcher a few years ago to gather the info which she did. If the 1855 is online, please send me a link.

Alright then. I did see in the 1855 Census Margaret _______ Cooper Winchell was born 1801 Delaware County, NY. Did you check the 1840 Census for Cooper in Cattaraugus, NY area ?

Elenora Doty b. 12 Sept 1842 d. 10 Sept 1899 Buried Forest Cemetery, Stevens Point, Portage County, WI. Maybe her d.c. will have parents names.
Hudson Cooper d. 4 Aug 1886 @ Junction City, age 54y5m12d.
You can find him in census 1880/1885 MN with wife Manetta. His obit listed two sisters Mrs. Chauncy Doty of Sherry WI (Wood County). So perhaps Elenora Cooper Doty died in Wood County,WI. Also mentioned sister Mrs. Henry St. Pierre of Linwood, WI. Hudson Cooper buried Episcopal Cemetery aka Forest Cemetery.
Milo Cooper, Civil War Soldier.
Will try to find more for you.

Thanks very much!!! Michael was my grandfather. The family settled in Vegreville, where my 2nd cousins still farm. I believe a Lucas Goszko was also was on the ship and settled in vegreville, don't know if he was a brother or cousin or what.

Goszkowicz Goszko from Laniwce Galicia

Researching my ggrandfathers line. He was Tymko Goszko of Laniwce. His father or grandfather moved there, unknown where from. Married to Maria Korpan. Korpan may be of Turkic origin. Tymko's mother was Mekita Kisil. They immigrated to Canada in 1903 and settled in Vegreville Alberta. Thanks for any info.

Don't have info on his war record--do know that after Caroline died he married her sister. My interest is chiefly in the Durland family---Caroline was a Durland-
But did contact the Vernon HS and received interesting info on the Sloggy family.

The 46th Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Camp Randall in Madison and mustered into service on March 2, 1865, only a few weeks before the war ended. The regiment moved to Louisville, Kentucky, March 5-10 and then traveled to Athens, Alabama, between April 22-24. Its services included guard duty along the line of the Nashville & Decatur Railroad. The regiment mustered out of active service, September 27, 1865. It lost 20 men during service, all from disease.

I've since discovered that Justyna and Rosalia's siblings were Marianna, Andreas, and Peter. Their father was Ignatz Burant. So no, I don't think they were Joseph's sisters. They must be related to him some other way. I also had family in Milwaukee that went to visit the Burants. Let me know if you need any help or find out anything.

Are you asking if Justyna and Rozalia are Joseph's sisters? Joseph is my husband's 4th great grandpa. I am currently looking for more info of him as well. Maybe we could be of some help to eachother? Ironically, I have some ancestors who lived in Milwaukee, with one of them having a Burant as a witness to their marriage. I will have to do some digging.

Maude had 3 children I think. Inez, Hazel & Sandy. Not sure if they were Emmett's children as well or if she was married before him. Inez was my Grandmother. It is hard to get any info out of my Mother. She is strange about her past.

I am the Great Grand Daughter of Emmett & Maude Steele. My Middle name is the same as her's. She lived in Yuma till she became blind & got a bit sick. My Mother brought her to Florida where she passed away less than a year later. She was a wonderful woman. She was 92 years old I believe. Still smart & strong.

Linda, my ancestors arrived in America in 1881 and settled in Stevens Point. They came from St. Peters, Austria, which is now located in Hungary (between Vienna and Budapest). Despite originating from Austria, they were of German descent. These people were know as Berglanders. I know a number of families in Stevens Point shared a common background. I recommend you try St. Joseph's Parrish in Stevens Points. Hope this helps.
