Death Notice / obituary.
On 26 Feb. Johann Justus Freund Sr. died from hardening of the spinal cord. He was born on 15 February 1835 to Oberhülka, Homberg, the district of Kassel, in Hesse, and married Anna Gertrude Schmidt in 1858. Five children were produced from this marriage. Of these, one daughter preceded him in death. He came with his family to Racine, Wis. on 22 Nov. 1869 and soon after joined the First German Ev. Luth. Church in Racine. He had been handicapped for the last eleven years. He died peacefully; blessed as one of God's devoted cross-bearers through belief in his Savior, at the age of 79 years and 14 days. He was buried on 2 March this year, leaving behind to mourn his death is his widow, and their four children: Pastor John Freund, Hamburg, Wis.; Justus Freund, Missoula, Mont; J. J. Freund Jr., Cameron, Wis.; and his daughter Elisabete, Mrs. Sebastian Besach, Racine, Wis.
