Mrs. Lavina Smiley, aged 89 years, 8 months and 9 days, died at her home near Orfordville Sunday morning. Mrs. Smiley was born in Luzerne county, Pennsylvania. She came to Wisconsin, with her husband, Thomas Smiley, in 1846 and located on the farm where she has since resided, he having passed away in the winter of 1872. Mrs. Smiley had been a member of the Methodist church for many years. She possessed many christian graces that won for her the respect and highest regards of a large circle of friends and made old age radiant with peace, and the future bright with the hope of immortality. Mrs. Smiley had been in feeble health for the past eighteen months. She leaves six children; Mrs. Lyman Inman of Newark; Mrs. S. S. Allen and Mrs. H. G. Ferry, of Independence, Iowa; Mrs. C. T. Dickey of Brodhead; A. F. Smiley of Orfordville; and Mrs. M. D. Beebe, who has lived with and cared for the aged mother.
The funeral was held at the Methodist church Tuesday, January 22, the service being conducted byt he pastor Rev. Mr. Perry.
