Both my mother and I attended Parker Elementary in Beloit. It was a stately old building next to the 5th Street train tracks with two stories, beautiful wood floors, old-fashioned coat halls and a working bell tower. The rope to pull the bell was in the 6th grade cloak hall. We attended half-day kindergarten in a smaller frame building next door with a separate playground from the "Big School." Gym was held in the low-ceiling basement of the big school and I think I remember how we left our boots on the first-floor heating grate in the center hall during snowy weather. Parker was closed around 1967. It was also known as "Old No. 2". I've been looking everywhere for pictures of the building, but haven't found any yet.
