March 8, 1917 - March 2, 2001
Calvin Glen Thatcher was born March 8, 1917 in Cady Township, Knapp, Wis. and died March 2, 2001 at the St. Croix County Health Center.

April 8, 1939 he married Avanell Zobel at Menomonie. He was baptized in 1952 by Rev. E.N. Oakland. Calvin was the oldest of 14 children.

He retired from Doughboy Feed Mill after many years. Calvin always loved to tell stories of the fun he had with Len Hoogheem, Allie Wolfe, Bill Parent, Art Knutson, Ron Thompson, Paul Mettler, and Ron Wilson. The visits from Tim Kizer meant so much to him--all those years.

Calvin enjoyed many deer hunting and fishing trips with his son-in-law Merlin Turner (who he thought of as a son). And after his health got bad, Merlin and he would "tour" the old hunting and fishing areas, Calvin enjoying every minute of it. He enjoyed going out to the kids' farm and watching the donkeys.

When he was still at home, he and his best buddy, Maggie the cat, would sit out on the back porch and watch the squirrel come into the feeders.

Preceding him in death were his parents Tom and Clara (Kegan) Thatcher; brothers Van and Clifford; sisters Marjorie Smith, Stella Thatcher; his wife of 60 years, Avanell, (Nov. 15, 1999), and Maggie the cat.

Calvin is survived by his daughter Carol Jean and son-in-law Merlin Turner of Emerald; step grandchildren, Melinda, Dan, and Joan; sisters, Vera Dresser, Menomonie, Celia Dresser, Knapp, Lila (Sam) Dresser, Knapp, Jane (Bud) Blacklock, Merrimac, Wis., Deloris (Allen) McCelland, Woodville, Patsy (James) Smith, Downing; brothers, Miles (Marie) Thatcher, Portland, Ore., Marvin (Beverly) Thatcher, Spring Valley; sisters-in-law Arlene Thatcher, Boyceville, Esther Zobel, LaCrosse; Godchildren, James Donicht, Menomonie, Laurie Brown, Eau Claire, Lynn Elwood, Marysville, Cal.; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held March 5 at the Methodist church at Emerald with Pastor Gregg Messar officiating. Ruth Hurtgen was the organist and Rita Hurtgen was the soloist.

Pallbearers were Ron Wilson, Paul Mettler, Bill Zobel, Ron Thompson, Alvin Smith, and Brent Zobel. Burial was at Teegarden, Lucas.

Arrangements by Beebe Mortuary.
