I found several obits for Norwegians in Trempealeau Co. from the late 1880s to the 1920s on a Rootsweb list. I didn't cite them properly so I can't tell you exactly how to find them. But I just googled "Wisconsin Scandinavian Obituaries Rootsweb" and got some with some last names. If you do an advanced search and put in one of the last names, you'll get into the "B" names and I bet you'll find those that showed up in the newspapers. Also just put the name into Google and see if it comes up. There are also some old newspapers that are online directly--I found a Trempeleau Co. obit it a Winona MN paper June 2010, though looking for it now that site seems to be down.

By the dates you're looking for, there may still have been a Norwegian language paper. Certainly many of the Norwegians didn't speak English. But there were at least two English papers, one in Whitehall and one in Blair.

Good luck.
