History of Vernon Co., WI, 1884: The first settler of Genoa Twp. was Wm. TIBBITTS, who came to section 22 in 1850, followed the same year by Elias SHISLER, also Section 22. Elias SHISLER was born 12 Feb. 1827, Perry Co., OH; m. 27 Mar. 1844, Nancy BARNES; moved to Allamakee Co., IA, for two years; then moved to Victory, Bad Ax, now Vernon, County. His second wife was Eliza CONROAD, m. 5 Nov. 1855. He had one child {sic, 3, see cem.} by his first marriage, four by the second, and three by his third. Only Amos, a son by his second wife, survived [in 1884].
