Casper J. Schmitt

Funeral services for Casper J. Schmitt, 63, were held on Monday, April 15 at 9:15 a.m. from the Haack Funeral Home, Menomonee Falls, to St. Hubert's church, Hubertus, at 10 a.m. Interment took place in the church cememtey. Rev. John A. Kujawa officiated.

Mr. Schmitt was born Nov. 13, 1899, the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth Neuburg Schmitt, on the farm where he resided his entire lifetime. For the past several years he suffered from heart trouble and had given up farm work, but was accustomed to doing spring work. On Thursday, April 11, he felt the urge to do some "stone picking", using a fork to avoid the bending. When he did not return to the house getting near the supper hour his daughter Kathleen went out into the field to look for him. She found her father seated on the tractor where he had died.

He was a member of St. Hubert's Church and Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, (nee Bence); 8 children, William, Gilbert, LeRoy, of Hubertus, Rose Marie Schwan and Robert of West Bend, Pvt. Casper of the US Army, Kathleen and Mary Louise at home; 5 sisters, Mrs. Alex Friess, Mrs. Frank Hennes, Mrs. John Hauser, Miss Marcella Schmitt, all of Hubertus, sister M. Tilda of Campbellsport; one brother Aloys in New Jersey; one son-in-law; 4 daughters-in-law; 25 grandchildren and other relatives.
