Wisconsin State Journal August 15, 1943, page 4
Thousands Left
to Missing Woman
MILWAUKEE —— Termsof a will filed for probate in county
court here Saturday provided $15.-000 cash and one-third of the residue of an estate totaling more than
§100,000 for a former Milwaukee
woman who has been missing since
two days before Singapore fell to
the Japanese in 1942.
The will is that of Gertrude
Saxe Bean, 87, who died Aug. 10.
She was an aunt of Mrs. Gertrude
Bean Hinch, 50, former head of the
YWCA of the federated Malay
states. The ship on which Mrs.
Hinch sailed from Singapore was
believed torpedoed in February,
1942.
Under terms of the will, if Mrs.
Hinch is not found, the mother's
share was to go to her daughter,
Kathleen G. Hinch, 16, Milwaukee.
The husband and father, Thomas
W. Hinch, is in a Japanese internment
camp.
