Thank you so much for this information. The birth info is important. Vede died about 1919 although I don't have her obit either. I wonder who Ben Hungerford is. Did it give any relationship? I don't think Leo and Vede had any children.
Thanks again
Peggy

I have tracked Leo Zanfretta as far as the 1940 census for Oshkosh, Winnebago. He was a widower born in Feb 1869 in Cuba.
I would think he would have died soon after the 1940 census. Can anyone find his death and/or obituary. He was the son of Alexander Zanfretta and possible Josie Dupree. Would like to know for sure.
Thanks for any help
Peggy

Recently through DNA testing and paper trail, I found that my grandfather is not my biological grandfather.

My Grandmother Loretta Flynn was a school teacher in the Town of Algoma in 1918 when she may have become pregnant with my father. This may have been WWI related, or not, but I am stuck.

I am wondering if there is any record of teachers in the Town of Algoma or maybe even residency records for that year

Loretta was from Sauk county, but according to my grandparents marriage license she lived in the Town of Algoma when she was married two days before my father was born.

Any help would be appreciated.

Grandpa Corry (Francis Michael) was son of william morraugh corry and catherine conhahan corry from Madison , WI. They owned a general store on state street. Grandpa attended Milwaukee medical school, now Marquette, and met grandma corry ( hannah Fitzgerald daughter of honor ah and Michael Fitzgerald) . She was secretary to the dean of the medical school. They originally belonged to st. Patrick's parish and the 5 oldest kids went to school there. The last seven attended st Mary's which was on 2nd and Broad , and the corry house was on 1st and broad. All 13 graduated from Menasha highschool. Grandma and grandpa corry are buried in resurrection cemetery in Madison, wi. We have lots of family pictures, including one of all 15. Happy to pass along if you are still looking for info and pictures. My mom has family history back to the early 1800 s in Cavan.
Rush Lake, in Nepeuskun, Winnebago County? Assuming so, but Nepeuskun, is spelled about 6 different ways! Also, is or have the lines for the boundaries of this region changed over the years? as of 1850, have a land title, and wonder if it would convert to a current 2013 land description title? I am looking for James Deyoe of 1803, along with his father Peter Deyoe, DOB about 1782 with DOD of about 1876, in Winnebago County, living in the area with family after death of his wife in New York at about 1850, along with Deyoe, Mallory, & Seabury relatives in this region. If you have information/suggestions, good search engines-including websites, local resources or other, and/or have family links to these individuals please contact me.
Do you, or anyone have the death announcement of Peter Deyoe, father of James Deyoe/Deyo? I have found several documents, and hand written records to state that Peter Deyoe came to Winnebago County, after the death of his wife, which was in about 1850. With the death of his wife(who is unknown), he had at least one child named James(1803-1878) who married Esther Ann Mallory, and resided in Winnebago County, after obtaining land in about 1850, to build on. Peter is said to have lived with James until his death in Wisconsin, after leaving New York. Peter is the son of Jacobus Deyo/Deyoe 1754 & Margaret Tripp 1755 living in Dutchess Ghent Columbia Counties of New York. I am looking to find records indicating residence, birth of family members, property purchases, death certificates, marrriage license information, or others on these individuals. Please email me or reply to this thread or the others. turtles3kids3@yahoo.com Thank you, Pat

Hi Keith! WOW, NOT AGAIN! Oh, my gosh, you have no idea how I have tried to figure out WILLIAM P DEYOE and his spouse Agnes S. Becker, along with his other two wives and children! Ugh! Very confusing, and not just my research! His name keeps coming up! I do believe that the information of James Deyoe of 1803 along with Esther Ann Mallory of 1810 are his parents, as Peter R. Deyoe born 1832 and passing 1899 is their son, but not 100% sure, just the same. I do have a fair amount of research, but more time than anything invested in the maze of Deyoes! Please, keep me in the loop! I do have a few ideas, of why this confusion comes up... One thing I feel that may cause some of the confusion is that the James and Peter seem to alternate each generation for one thing! Also, I believe that James of 1803, well, I believe his grandfather also settled in the Waukau area after the death of his spouse/which I have as 1850. I am quite confident that James 1803 is the grandson of James Deyoe & Margaret Tripp, as he is mentioned in the will of James of Ghent/in the Beekman files. Peter, William, Thankful, and so on are the children(aunts/uncles/fathers of James 1803, is how I have it) not saying it is completely accurate either! Not sure if this makes sense to you, but very excited that you can get to the records and see some of the documents! Pat

Harriet's may be found on the Find A Grave site #106506880
James Winchell as #106510542; note: his notices do not give a place of interment so I assume was kin to Harriet and placed in same cemetery. He does not appear on the list of Riverside Cemetery burials.
The notice from 1950 is not available by newspaper sites. You can obtain one from the Oshkosh Public Library site for $5.00.
They make it real easy, you click by the notice you want and it prints out so all you have to do is insert your name etc.

I hope this helps.

Her obit is just to the left of that advertisement about halfway down the page under the headline 'MARY ANDERSON DIES' (zoom in to see it).

My best guess is that it reads:

"Death came on Monday to Mrs. Mary Anderson, widow(?) of A(?)
Birth registration wasn't required until 1907 but some counties do have spotty records before that time. I checked the Wisconsin Historical Society's pre-1907 index (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords/) both by name and by date and came up with nothing.

It's highly unlikely to find a birth record that early, unless there was a delayed one (which wouldn't be included in the index and you'd have to go to the Winnebago County Register of Deeds office or submit an application to have them search).

You could also contact the Oshkosh Public Library to have them look in their index (which includes delayed birth records). See this page: http://www.oshkoshpubliclibrary.org/localhistory/genealogyre...

UW-Oshkosh's Area Research Center at Polk Library is also a good resource. http://www.uwosh.edu/archives/births.htm

You could also explore other options, like church records, if you can not locate a birth record.

Good luck!

This website is for Winnebago county. I just received it as a suggestion, and found it very helpful. Keep in mind that names can often be spelled a bit differently and still be the same person! Census information is included in errors and also in those days, people changed their names, whether it was officially changed or not- well doesn't always seem to be official or legal!
http://www.usgwarchives.net/wi/winnebago/census.htm

Good luck!

Can anyone fill me in on the availability of 1860s birth records for Winnebago County? Trying to locate a birth record for Katharine Belle Fowler (Father: Arnold Emmett Fowler; Mother: Elgitha Jane Cohoon); born 5 July 1868 in Neenah/Winnebago/Wisconsin.

For some reason I cannot seem to find birth record information for Winnebago. Does anyone have any insight on record availability/sources?

(Oh, I reserve the right to change dates and spellings, right?? lol)

Hi Elaine,
I am currently out of the country and will not return until April. It has been years since I have accessed this site. I have made a pilgrimage to The Norwegian-American Genealogical Research Center in Madison, Wisconsin and I have lots of new information about Ole Pedersen or however you want to spell his name. I was able to access the Flesberg farm history books, because the folks at the research center all read, write and speak Norwegian. It was a wonderful trip, filled with lots of new information. Thank you so much for leaving "a breadcrumb" to follow. I would very much like to connect and compare notes. My sister lives in Parkdale, Oregon and I drive through Portland all the time when I go to her house. By any chance, do you have a photograph of Ole Pederson? You can respond to this email as I am able to access my email periodically. I do not have my research with me, so anything I tell you about would be from memory and that could get me in trouble. The most exciting thing out the trip was that Ole was involved in a great silver ore robbery in the Konegisburg mining distrit. This was about 1839 and he and his wife and daughter sailed to American in 1842 to the Muskego settlement in Wisconsin. They latter moved to Winnebago County in 1849. Ole was one of the signers of the Muskego Manifesto published in the Norwegian newspapers about "Nord Amerika"! I look forward to hearing from you.

Michael M. Thorstad
P.
Good morning Andreas, I was able to find a small obit for John. Not much info though. He died May 12, 1895, per obit. I couldn't find a death record. Wisconsin didn't require a civil death record until 1907. His wife died circa February 18, 1911 in Chicago, per her obit. I couldn't find her in the Illinois death index online, but it is not complete yet. She is buried in Riverside cemetery in Oshkosh. John is most likely buried there too. Her children are mentioned in the obit. Hope this helps.
I am researching the Joseph Wilbert family. Joseph was born in Fond du Lac and married Harriet Dewitt Winchell in 1907 in Oshkosh. According to what I have found so far, they had 2 children: Joseph P (b 1908) and Mary/Marie (b 1912) who probably married Harold Johnson about 1930. Harriet had a child, Rosa/Rosella (b 1903) from a first marriage to James Winchell. Rosa was living with Joseph & Harriet in 1910 and was in the "WI Home of Feeble Minded" in Chippewa County.

Would someone please find 3 obits for me?
Mason Damon/Damman b.1803 Maine & reported in Oshkosh

22 Nov 2012 from Warren Forsythe
Genealogy121 (at) fairpoint.net
-
Page 94 of “Damon Family of Scituate, Mass.” by Richard A Damon Jr. and D. Bradford Damon
says nothing about spouse nor descendants for Mason Damon b. 1803 Fairfax Maine,
Even though lots of descendants are compiled there for his adjacent siblings:
John Damon born 1801, and Rebecca (Damon) Woodward born 1805.
For Mason Damon born 1803, page 94 of above genealogy says only
“#1786 Mason b. Fairfax [Maine] June 26, 1803; settled in Oshkosh, Wisc. (DBD)”
[the DBD refers to co-author D. B. Damon (1901-1992), meaning that Richard A Damon in 2000 reports DBD info., even though the surviving co-author found no confirmation about Oshkosh]
Indeed, 1830 is the last public record I, Forsythe, find that confirms Mason Damon b. 1803 had a wife and family: 1830 US census of Howland, Penobscot Co. Maine, Mason Dammon with aged 20-29 female, two males aged 20-29, male aged 0-4, female aged 10-14.
1840 us census
-
HOWEVER YESTERDAY --I, Forsythe, notice the following 1880 county history
-
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.damman/5/mb.ashx
-
Tells of a Nancy Damon/Damman born Apr 1830 in Maine (Penobscot[?now Piscataquis?] County)
She was on the Douglas/Douglass side, a 1st cousin once removed to her husband; so probably many of these Douglas/Damon kin migrated from Maine to Wisconsin about 1840-1842
-
From the “History of Dane County, Wisconsin-1880” there is a biographical sketch under the ‘Town of Dunn’ for J.F. Douglass, farmer, Sec.27; P.O. Stoughton; was born in Penobscot Co., Maine, in July, 1822, and in the autumn of 1840, he emigrated with his parents to Vermillion Co, IL; in July, 1842, they came to Dane Co., Wis., and located in the town of Rutland, and in 1845 removed to the town of Dunn, and settled on Sec. 14; three years later he bought and removed to this farm in Sec. 27; He now owns 160 acres of Secs. 22 and 27. Mr Douglass has been Town Treasurer one term, and a member of the Town Board two terms. He was married in the town of Rutland, Dane Co., Wis, in 1846, to Nancy Damman, a native of Penobscot Co, Maine, born in April 1830; their children are Robert A, who enlisted in the 8th W.V.I., February 1864 and died at Vicksburg, in June 1864; Jeremiah, who now lives in this town; Marilla, now the wife of William Hulse, who lives in Ohio; Margaret, now Mrs Albert Southerland, who lives in Fremont Co, Iowa; Orra A, now Mrs William Neye, and lives at Syrene, Dane Co, Wis; Cornelia, Mrs George Green, who lives in Nebraska; Carrie, Mason, Edward, Flora and John. Mr & Mrs Douglass are Free-Will Baptists.
-
SO WE SEARCHED FOR RECORDS OF WIFE&KIDS FOR MASON DAMON born 1803:
www.familysearch.org , the Salt Lake Family History Library, cites vital records of Lee, Maine
-two ancestry.com public member trees tell a similar story, sometimes with slight documentation
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/10491922/person/-631002564?ss...=
and the less-credible undocumented assertion that Mason d.1891 Sheridan,Dunn Co.,WI at
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/26013157/person/5001175934?ss...=
-
SO NOW WE POST DESCENDANTS OF SABRINA & MASON DAMON at
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=REG&d...
-
Best to look there to see documentation and updates, but 22 nov 2012 initially it said:
Descendant Register, Generation No. 1
________________________________________
1.
Are you sure it was Clara who married George Jones? Cynthia's obit only mentioned one daughter. But in the 1860 census, it looks like she also had a daughter Edna Eggleston (born 1849 Ohio). Could Edna in 1860 (born 1849 Ohio) have been the wife of George Jones? See the 1880 Oshkosh census below. Edna M. Jones (born 1847 Ohio)

1860 United States Federal Census
Name: John H Collins
Age in 1860: 50
Birth Year: abt 1810
Birthplace: Connecticut
Home in 1860: Mantua, Portage, Ohio
Gender: Male
Post Office: Mantua
Household Members: Name Age
John H Collins 50 born Conn....cheese dealer
Cynthia Collins 38 born Ohio
John H Collins 18 born Ohio
Charles Collins 13 born Ohio
Sarah Collins 10 born Ohio
Edna Eggleston 11 born Ohio
Abel Mcfarland 66 born Mass.
--------------
1880 United States Federal Census
Name: Edna M.
I appreciate the additional information but I am only concerned about John's wife Cynthia McFarland Eggleston and her daughter Clara B Collins Jones. Tough name to trace - George Jones.
