I like a good mystery, so will try to help in "pieces". I will start with your general questions.
There are Wisconsin State Census records as well as Federal Census - you can order these on microfishe at any LDS records center. And you can search for on-line records at:
http://www.interment.net/us/hi/index.htmThe former Hansen's Disease or "Leper" Colony was located on the Kalaupapa Peninsula on the Hawaiian Island of Molokai - here is a site with photos - I hiked down the mountain to visit the colony several years ago - it was well worth the trip.
http://gohawaii.about.com/od/molokaiphotos/a/kalaupapaphotos... There is a wonderful historical account of the Colony at:
http://www.whirledwydeweb.com/kalaupapa/colony.html Here is the USGenWeb Hawaii site to search for clues:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/history/marsh.htm You can make a written (snail mail) query to HOWGS - see
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwood/HeartOWi/h-query.htmDid you try Ask McMillan - while they do not do genealogical research, they will do a quick lookup for you:
http://www.scls.lib.wi.us/mcm/library/askmcm.html Recent obits can be obtained from WI Newpapers On-line -
