"I am looking for more information on WILHELM SCHMOLDT, born 1824 in Germany, died 1899 in Nebraska. He originally settled in Wisconsin with his brothers after moving to the states. Wilhelm later moved west to Nebraska to avoid the Indians, but family legend has it the brothers stayed in Wisconsin. ..."

There are 2 Schmoldt entries in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950): Hermann (suicide in 1893), Caroline (1916).

It's odd that someone would move westward into newly constructed (then deconstructed) Indian territories "to avoid the Indians" in Wisconsin.
