Granville township is one of the original townships that make up Milwaukee County. Some of the original _townships_ (Lake, Milwaukee, and Granville) gradually shrunk, then disappeared as the boundaries of the _City_ of Milwaukee spread out and absorbed them. Other townships (Franklin, Greenfield) incorporated themselves as cities somewhat preserving their original township boundaries which you can still see in some maps. Early maps of the townships are found online at library websites with digital collections: UW-Milwaukee Library, Milw. Public Library, Wisc. Hist. Society.
