Interesting item (possibly genealogical?) relating to the University of Wisconsin, about William E. Dodd's service as U.S. Ambassador to Germany in the early-to-mid-1930's.
In the Garden of Beasts – Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin.
New York: Broadway Paperbacks, 2011.
Under Sources and Acknowledgments,
“...in the library of the University of Wisconsin, I found...a supply of materials on the only UW alumna to be guillotined at Hitler's command, Mildred Fish Harnack.”
The book has many scattered references to her (a UW instructor), and to her husband Arvid Harnack, whom she had met at the University in 1926.
Good “novelistic history”, as the New York Times put it.
