Ready for a Challeng? Hamilton/Mortenson or Mortberg Marriage

My great great grandfather came from Sweden and moved to the US. His given name was Sven Svenson (sp?) and he later changed his name to Gus or August Hamilton. He married a woman from Denmark named Carrie or Karen Mortenson or Mortberg. They later moved to Wyoming which is where they died. They were married in Wisonsin, but I do not know where or when. Their first child Ida or Susie as she was known was born in 1885 so I'm guessing they were married at least a year prior to that. Susie was born in Lacross, WI and I do not know if that's the same city they were married in. I really don't have any information because I can't even find them coming into America since I am not sure of the name they came in on. Anything you can help me with would be GREATLY appreciated. I really want to get more info on these two! Thanks!!!

Lochen, residence La Crosse, Wisconsin. J also found a William W. Lochen in the Social security death index, born the same date and died in 1966 in La Crosse. By search of cemeteries, a William W. Lochen, born 1887 and d. 1966 is buried on a catholic graveyard with his wife, Magdalen C. Lochen.

J have seen that there is another Lochen family in La crosse probably of German origin, so it seems it is not the same family.

Can anyone help me with more information?
J would be very happy for any advice!
Lil

Their children are; Roger W MEYER, Ruth Ann MEYER (JARVEY), LeRoy Joseph MEYER, and Janet MEYER (NELSON).

From what I know, they were in the Milwaukee area.

I know that things were difficult when their children were taken away from them and I don't wish to open up any old wounds, I'm just looking for names and dates.

Thank you.

Michelle Smoody Nelson
tazcoco72@gmail.com

I am looking for someone who MAY be my great great grandfather (or at the very least, my first husband of my great grandmother). All my great Aunt remembers is that his last name was Schoultz and he was from Wisconsin. She remembers that he may have died in a logging accident. The name I have for my great grandmother is a Margaret Ann Ely (1868-1907) who came to the US possibly through Canada and then eventually moved to New York State and married Phillip O'Riley and is buried in NY.

I'm looking for information on the Tremblay family. They came from Canada to Chippewa Falls, WI. The parents are Jemimah Palmer and Ernest Tremblay. I believe Ernest was Americanized after tehy came from Canada.

Jemimah and Ernest had three children while still living in Canada, Edith, George and Edward. There were two girls born in Chippewa Falls, WI. Belle (Annabelle) and Emma. Emma is my great grandmother.

I believe Belle (later married Christopher Keck) was born in 1872 and Emma (who I believe married a man named Simpkins prior to my grandfather's father) was born in 1874.

Emma married George Murray in Lake County, IN in 1913. He died in 1916. Emma died in about 1935.

Emma also spent a great deal of time in Douglas and Superior County, and in Blueberry, WI.

I'm looking for any tips to find any and all of them. I can't really find any informationon Ernest and Jemimah. It seems like I've lost track of them.

I would order her birth certificate online, but it requires a city/county, and all I know is "Wisconsin". (1930 Federal census she is living with her parents in Michigan, but it has her birth state as Wisconsin). Any ideas on how to find out this information? She was born in 1926, and died in 1986.

Thanks!

Firemen - Superior, WI

My grandfather, Louis Vashaw, was a fireman in Superior, Wisconsin in the 1920-1925 timeframe. I am looking for information about him. Is there a site on the internet, or somewhere I can write to get information about the firefighters in the 1920's? I am not only interested in Louis Vashaw history, but also in the lives of firefighters in 1920 - the hows, whats, whys.

Spencer Robert Fedder...found out he died last year, but not sure of the date, he was from Wisconsin (I know the town if that helps). Just wondering if anyone knew his date of death and/or had a copy of his obituary? Me and a friend of his don't live by him anymore and so we're trying to recover this information since we didn't get to attend his funeral. Janusz is the current last name of his birth mom and step-dad. Thanks for your time, any hints or leads would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

Does anyone know of Ernest A. Saylo (Seilo/Salo)?

I have very little family information so need help finding out who his parents were, who he was married to, whether or not he had children, and even where he was born.

What is known is that Ernest A. Saylo was born 12 December 1918(from death record), but could of been born as early as 1912. Probably in Montana. He died 19 August 1967 in Monroe County, Wisconsin with burial at Tomah, Wisconsin. The informant on his death record was a friend who was unable to recall the names of his parents. The record states that he was divorced, but her name was unknown. He was of Finnish descent and resided in northern Wisconsin at one time. I have found an Ernest Saylo in Washburn County(1930 census) who fits this guy. Also found an Ernest Seilo (1920 census) Ashland County who I believe could be the same person. The stories told about this Ernest Saylo have him as a wandering man--abandoning a wife and children(unproved). I have found no S.S# assigned to him nor do I know if he had a Wisconsin drivers license or any other paper trail.

~~Carolyn

He emigrated to the U.S. in 1888 with his wife Anna Wolf, born in Furstenhut in October 1857(daughter of Eduard WOLF & Josefa SCHRANK WOLF), his sons, Ernst, born December 1880, Erhard, born February 1885, and his daughter, Mary, born October 1888. They had two children after emigration, Anna, born December 1, 1890 and Alouisa (Elizabeth) born March 1893, both born in Wisconsin. They lived in Oshkosh, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. I believe that Josepf had two brothers, Ernest and Julius, who worked for the railroad in St Paul, Minnesota. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
Researching emigration from Bertrange/Bartringen in Luxembourg to the United States

Luxembourg notary records from 1848 and 1850 indicate that Ann Catherine BASTING, wife of Nicolas AREND, was residing in Addison, Washington County, WI. I don’t know whether it is the small locality west of Allenton, or the township of Allison, both located in Washington County. What church (Roman Catholic), what cemetery would be closest? I am not shure, though, whether they stayed in the area.

Their marriage was celebrated 19 Jan 1842 in Waldbillig, Luxembourg.
Nicholas Arend (also Arendt) was born in Medernach 25 Nov 1813, son of Mathias Arend and Mary Ulveling and Catherine Bastin(g) was born in Bertrange 3 Mar 1815, daughter of Michael Basting and Magdalena Schmit.

.They had the following children in Waldbillig:
Mathias b.16 Jan 1843,
Michael b. 4 Oct 1844 and
John b. 27 Mar 1846.
I found their arrival at the site www.castlegarden.org on the ship “Phenomene” arriving in NY 30 Jun 1847:
Arend N, male, farmer 30 y
Arend C. female, 30 y
Arend M. male, 4 y
Arend M. male, 2 y
Arend J., male 2 y

Any other information on this family will be most welcome.
Hello:
I am Karen Lorge, great-granddaughter of Louis Lorge. My grandfather was John Francis Lorge and my father is John Gayle Lorge. I have just begun to investigate our family and was told about Ancestry.com. I have come across some of you other "Lorges!" I will probably get to emailing with some of you indidvidually due to reading some of the emails that are posted. My sister and I were especially suprprised to find out about Marie Catherine Lorge and the birth of her son Francois since this means our "sir" name would not have actually been Lorge if she had married the father! Very interesting. My email is dubaydiva@juno.com and would love to hear from you other Lorges. Karen Lorge, Wausau Wisconsin. Father, John (Beverly) Lorge Schofield, Wisconsin. Brother, John Lorge, Schofield Wisconsin. Sister, Ronda (Lorge) Simons, Seattle, Washington.

My great grandfathers brother, Ingver Kaasen, b. oct.1856, emigrated from Norway to America 1881. He married Jennie Thompson around 1883/1884, most probably in Wisconsin. They have their fist son, Raymond, b. oct. 6 1887 in Superior, county Douglas (see thread "Kaasen Cosan Coson Birth lookup"). Ingver's names have som variations to them, in different sources. Ingver/ingevar/Ingvar and Kaasen/Cason/Cosson/Coson. The family went to Duluth MN and settled there, sometimes between the birth of Raymond and their daughter Constance, b.1888 in Duluth. He dies as Ingvar Paulus Coson, in Duluth MN 1932.
I know quite a lot about the family AFTER they settled in Duluth. Ingvers history in Norway, before the emigration, is well covered. BUT, I know NOTHING about his wife Jennie Thompson. She is said to be born in Norway, with norwegian parents. I can't find her in the emigration protocols, and suspect her family may have changed their name "over there"
Does anybody have access to information concerning immigration, marriages or other stuff in Wisconsin??

Tom Kaasen

Trying to find the birth record of Raymond Cosan born October 1887 in Wisconsin. By 1900 the family was in Minnesota but says Raymond was born in WI. There is no listing in WI Genealogy index. Both parents Ingevar Kaasen-Cosan-Coson and Jennie (maiden name unknown) immigrated from Norway in 1881. Married in about 1883 probably in WI. Any suggestions where I might look for either the marriage or birth? Thanks
Judy

We also know that he married Margaret Heyer and they had 9 children who were: Peter, Phillp, Franz, Christiana, Henry, John, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Susan. I would appreciate any information someone could give me.
Rev. Thomas Harwood Diary - Leone and Tomah Wisconsin

A diary was found by my grandfather, Bayliss Henry McCain in the 1930’s in a house that was being restored in Albuquerque New Mexico. It passed down to my mother, Katherine McCain Schoedinger, who copied it and gave to the University of New Mexico for safe keeping. The following are what she copied and her notes:

Reverend Thomas Harwood was a member of an organization called the “Christian Commission”, a volunteer organization which supplied creature comforts and religious materials to professional chaplains for distribution to the troops. According to civil war records, Rev. Harwood was present at muster until June 30, 1863. From July 21, 1863 to August 31, 1863, he was ill and returned to the regiment on September 1, 1863. On November 18, 1863 he was hospitalized with dysentery. He was released to the regiment on December 31, 1863. He was back in the hospital on January 23, 1864. He made chaplain on January 28, 1864. From February 4-29, he was ill at Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was wounded on August 10, 1864. The diary is one of many, but this one records from April 1, 1865 to July 16, 1865.

If you would like a copy of the diary, please email me at JudyLehm@aolc..

Judy Lehman

Descendants of Frank and Johanna Magulski

My great-great-grandparents were Frank and Johanna (nee Lubinska) Magulski. I believe Frank was born around 1828 in Podlaski, Koscierzyna, Poland, and Johanna was born around 1844. They married in Poland, had one daughter Mary (my great-grandmother) in 1862, and emigrated to the Milwaukee area sometime in the 1860s. There they had three more children, Julia, Katherine, and August. I believe Frank and Johanna eventually moved to Portage County, WI to be near their oldest daughter in the late 1800s. Right now I am interested in researching their three younger children:

Julia (b 1872?), married Jacob Janikowski
Katherine (b 1876 in South Milwaukee), married John Jakuboski (?-1905?) in 1899, then married Victor Wierzba
August (b 1880)

No information on Julia's children
Katherine's children: Anna Jakuboski, John Wierzba, Frank Wierzba, Edward Wierzba, Mary Wierzba, Lucille Wierzba
August's children: Anthony Magulski, Victor Magulski, Edwin Magulski, Casimir Magulski, Jennie Magulski, Veronica Magulski

I believe these relatives lived, for the most part, in Milwaukee, South Milwaukee, or Cudahy. Any information will be very helpful. Thanks very much in advance to anyone who responds.
