Ha ha - don't be scared and you're right TROVE is the BEST!!!

Do not "buy into" information or lack of info due to misspell or 1 day or 1 YEAR off in dates and times.

My family arrived in Adelaide 1860 and the name at that time was LEWITZKA. I'll give you a guess at how many different iterations of THAT surname there are in the Australian government records. (Hint: It's more than 10)

Our records in Germany were difficult to trace because our ancestral lands were 'East Germany' until the thaw and there's been a lag in digitizing info. Plus, there is a BING and/or BabelFish translator tool that can help you decipher.

I sent a note to a German genealogist using the online translator and apologizing for my lack of German. He wouldn't believe me since the translation was so good. He teased me.
