I am searching for the meaning behind the widely used name 'Linton' on many braches and generations of the 'Theodore' family tree. My ancestor is John Theodore (1855-1928). On all of John's records, birth, marriage, death, his parents are listed as Edward and Emily (Johnson), however, on his record as a Ward of the State in Victoria, he is shown to be committed while both parents seem to be alive and caring for the rest of their children (who a few years later also went into care for neglect), however on John's record they are not listed as alive or dead and a mother is listed in the 'remarks' as being MARY THEODORE LINTON. From this record on the name 'Linton' is widely used throughout all branches of the family tree and for many, many generations. Does anyone have any information about why this name is of importance? Or who is this woman?
