Are you descended from Samuel MAIDEN and his wife Elizabeth LANDGORD who emigrated to Australia, arriving on the ship the "Royal Charlie" at Adelaide on 24 May 1854 ? They lived in South Australia for a time, travelled up the Murray River and finally settled in Menindee New South Wales. The area of Broken Hill New South Wales remains significant to the family. They had nine children - check out the State Library of Victoria, Australia : Vic.net "First Families 2001" site on the internet to see more> Their children were Elizabeth Fanny (married :GILLETT) Sarah Langford (PRETTY), William (who married Margaret WHITE), George, Charles, Annie Martha (WILKINSON), Eleanor (Werribee PYKE),Mary Ellen Eliza(BURNS) and Alice (DAWES). If you are a descendant I would like to make conatact. William MAIDEN is my daughter's great great grandfather. A book, commissioned by a descendant - Claire Eaton has been written on the Charles MAIDEN family by Geoffrey Manning called "Whisky Makes you Well" - there is a copy in the Mortlock Library of South Australiana in Adelaide South Australia.
