Matthew and Mary Ann (nee Hutley) Hogan lived in Stanthorpe, where he was a publican.
Children: Michael (1864-1952), Winnifred (1866-1954, m Johnston), Mary (1868-1948, m McEneiry), Sarah (1870-1952, m Connolly)and Matthew Joseph (1872-1911).
Family history says that following Matthew's death (1873), the younger children were looked after by the Dwan family and the older children put into an orphanage.
Executors of Matthew's will were Mary Hogan, Patrick Hogan and Jeremiah Allman.
Presumably Mary is his wife, Patrick his brother (a tin miner who later became a publican). Jeremiah was a publican in Stanthorpe, Toowoomba and Warwick; first wife Mary Dwan nee Fogarty, second wife Catherine King.
Have so far been unable to find any further record of Mary Ann, why the family was split up, or what the connection was with the Dwan family.
Does anyone know any more details?
