Whelan in the 1800s

Classification: Query
Surnames: Whelan, Brown
My Great Grandmother Winnifred Mary Whelan (posibly Winnifred Mary Josephine Whelan) is listed on my Great Uncle's birth record as being born in Ballarat in 1873.
She married William Henry Brown (later fireman at mentone) in 1897.
She told my father that she was born in "The Old Tin Shed" in Melbourne though I don't konw the vercity of this claim, but she is supposed to be from the same family as "Whelan the Wreckers"

I am trying to follow my families lineage, but am stuck at this node. I'd apreciate it if anyone could help me find more information
