I am trying to find out all that I can on my ancestors who arrived from County Clare around 1856 and they resided in Ballarat up until about 1890/1900.
Family comprised Michael (Snr- a mystery one), Ellen (Snr), Bridget (the other mystery one), Patrick , Margaret, Thomas, Michael (Jnr) . Two other sisters, Maria (married a Robert Cummins in Geelong) and Ellen married later in life to a Martin McDonnell in Ballarat.
Michael (Jnr) was my great grandfather and all I know about him was that he won a rowing trophy (in my possession) in 1877 and was given a gold locket in 1881 from the Ballarat Rowing Club when he took up an appointment in Sydney .
From this point all I know for certain is that Ellen (both Snr & Jnr), Patrick, Margaret, Maria, Thomas and Michel (Jnr) are all buried in 3 family plots in Gore hill Cemetery in Sydney. These plots also contain other members of the Hogan's but all are from Michael (Jnr) as he was the only one I am aware of that had descendants.
I feel completely frustrated that I cannot find out any more information about this side of my ancestry and would love to have information which may be available and particularly about the elusive Michael (Snr) and Bridget.
