Nicholan/Nicholas and Griffiths families.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Nicholan, Nicholas, Nicholson, Griffiths, Godfrey
Gg gf William John Nicholan, a miner, married Emma Griffiths in Buninyong 4 Jan 1858. William John was born in Van Dieman's Land c1837, father William, a miner and mother Mary Ann Burnham. The closest match I have found in Tasmania was a William John b1835 to William Nicholas, a farmer, and Mary Ann. I have found members of this family as Nicholan, Nicholas and even Nicholson in Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. William John possibly has five English born siblings - given names not listed on shipping register to Hobart. Has anyone come across any of these spellings in Buninyong?

The marriage was witnessed by Mary Griffiths - possibly Emma's mother nee Godrey - a widow of Monmouthshire.
Emma had brothers Isaac and William. Have no leads on Mary after arrival in 1856.

Does anyone know of either family? Residences on the marriage certificate are Carngham, The Green Hills for WJN and Buninyong, the Durham Lion? for Emma. Are these properties, mines or Inns?

William John and Emma settled near Colac on Irrewillope although he died at Coolgardie WA.
