Hi all,

Duncan and wife Mary McDonald, along with their 4 children, arrived at Port Phillip from Sydney in Apr. 1839 on board the "John Barry". It was reported that 3 families, Duncan's included, remained in sick quarters on arrival.

Then on 18th May, The "Port Phillip Gazette" reported "......We hear that the typhus fever is amongst them, and several are in a very precarious state."

I have found a record of Duncan's death in 1873, but nothing on the rest of the family, and believe that one or more of them may have died from typhoid at that time or shortly after.

My query is "How do I search for deaths in Victoria before 1853"?
