German immigrants and passenger lists

Hi,
My g-g-grandmother Maria Anna Baumann (later given as Ann Mary Bowman) emigrated to Victoria from Germany around 1856. There are two possibles: on the Sarah Dixon from Liverpool in 1857, which gives the correct age, and on the Undine from Hamburg in 1855, which gives no age.

It gets worse. The Undine passenger lists on Ancestry include Maria plus several other Baumanns but give no place of origin. The Undine passenger lists on PROV give places of origin but a completely different crop of Baumanns. As far as I can tell the Undine made only the one immigrant voyage.

Presumably for the Maria on the Sarah Dixon I'll have to somehow trace passenger lists from Hamburg or wherever to NE England but can find no mention of these.

I'm trying to establish Maria's place of origin but am rather new at this (but learning fast!)

I'd be grateful for any help/advice.
Heather.
