Just to add to the confusion I quote from the diary of John Barton Hack for 9 January 1837 when he had just arrived in Launceston:
'Home to dinner and then went to see Mr [Michael] Connolly, who employs C[harles?] Weedon, to make some enquiry
about him. He gives him a very favourable character, and seems to wish to befriend him in every possible way. He [Weedon] called this evening, when Caroline[Carter] told
him she wished the affair to be broken off-he was keeping an
actress by whom he had a child, just previous to the time he sent out for Caroline, which seems to have decided her to have nothing to do with him-joined to the indifference with which he received her at first.'
Caroline Carter had accompanied the Hack family from England to Launceston in order to marry Weedon.
Was Dinah the actress? Samson Cameron closed down the Launceston Theatre, in which Dinah played, in November 1835 'because of the disgraceful manner in which some of his performers have behaved' (quoted from Launceston newspapers of the time).
