Re: HATHAWAY relatives - (I had 3 male Hathaway relatives who lived in Fiji during the 1800's --Anne)
Hi Sam,
I have been researching the Hathaway family from New Bedford/Nantucket/Australia/Fiji/and New Zealand.I had 3 male Hathaway relatives who lived in Fiji during the 1800's Joseph D Hathaway, Daniel S Hathaway and Charles George Hathaway. They were traders, mariners and ship builders
All were born in Australia, sons of Joseph Hathaway a mariner who was born in New Bedford MA , his family in MA were whalers, and ship builders. The family were Quakers who came to America in the 1600's.
I have tried to establish some relationship to your Isaac P Hathaway without much success, your info that Isaac was also a Quaker......is extremely interesting. There were 2 major Hathaway families in MA during those times one being the descendents of Arthur (my line) most of them were Quakers . and the descendents of Nicholas who were not predominately Quaker.
My Hathaways left Fiji in the early 1920's and retired to New Zealand.
I would be very interested in any information you may have about Isaac, our family stories tell of lots of contact with American relatives while the families were in Fiji.( no proof of that)
I have lots of American genealogy records and would love to share info with you.
Anne
