I wish to know, does anyone out there know the actual racial mix of David Whippy, all I know is he was born in Nantucket Island, USA and that he comes from a ship building family.

Don't the Whippeys descend from the 1st David Whippey and sons and the above Keziah's brothers?

I am researching my ggg-grandmother, Adi Elenoa Mila. She was a daughter (possibly niece or sister) of Ratu Epenisa Seru Cakobau, later Tui Viti - son of Ratu Tanoa Visawaqa, Vunivalu of Bau. Adi Elenoa (also known as Eleanor) married the Roko Tui Suva and was the mother of Aporosa Roko Tui Suva. She married secondly Ratu Golea (Qoleanavanua), Tui Cakau and was his principal wife. Their son Ratu Josefa Lalabalavu, Tui Cakau is the grandfather of the present Tui Cakau.

Harry Ledger death

I am looking for the death of Harry (or Henry) Mattam Ledger, who was born in 1880, possibly in England, and apparently went to Fiji to live. I am assuming he died there but cannot be certain. No idea if he married and had a family either. Does anyone know where I could research for a death in Fiji? I cannot find any databases.

Rounds/Pickering Family

Just recently I've been doing some research on the Rounds family.

So far this is what I've got:

Charles Pickering b. 1814, Sydney, NSW, Australia married Burekaria Tabuakovei. Their daughter Frances/Fanny Pickering married Charles Rounds in Nov 1856. Charles Rounds was born about 1836 in New Bedford, Bristol, MA, USA.

Charles Rounds and Fanny Pickering had 10 children: Charles, Louisa, Joseph, George, Josephine, Thomas, William, Arthur, John, and a nameless child.

I've got records for Charles Rounds II (married Helena Ryder), Thomas (married Mariana Hicks), William (m. Rosalini Danford) and the last nameless child who I think is Issac Rounds (married Jessie Dunn)

Other records I have that I cannot link to any of the 10 children are:

David Pius Rounds, b. 1912, father Joseph Rounds. Married Magaret Chambers. Three children: Melton, Joseph Michael and John William.

Issac Rounds, b. 1908. Parents: John Rounds and Rose OR Rosie Maria Morel.

Josephine Rounds, b. 1800. Married: Benjamin Wise on 2 May 1922.

I cannot link my great grandfather, David Rounds (b. abt. 1900) who married Ruth O'Connor around 1920.

I've looked up Adventurous Spirits Sample of Fiji settlers and the Cyclopedia of Fiji 1907. Only the former have entries of Charles Pickering and Charles Rounds, although more information on Pickering which included citations I have to follow up on.

I would be happy to hear from anyone who has the Rounds or Pickering family tree. I know that a Rounds family tree has be done but I don't know how to get a copy of it.

Also would anyone know how far the Registrations Office keeps records. Also recently they have been opening early and closing late instead of 8.30am - 4.30pm they now operate from 7am - 6pm.

Descendants of Charles Pickering 1830+

I am trying to trace/contact descendants of Charles Pickering who would have arrived in Fiji around 1830. His sister is my GGG Grandmother. I had thought we had lost him as we could find no records of him here in Australia after 1827 but I believe he married Burekaria Tabuakovei in Rewa in 1837 and also married again about 20 years later. He had several children of which one was a son Charles. I have noticed that there are quite a few Pickerings in the current phone book including a Charles so must assume several of these would be descendants. I would love to hear from any of my Fijian 'cousins'!

I am looking for information on my grandmother's family. She and my mother were both born in Fiji and moved to the US in 1945 with my grandfather whom she married during WWII (he was an american soldier stationed in Fiji). My grandmother was born in 1923 and my mother was born in 1944.

I also know that prior to my grandparent's marriage, my grandmother was married to a man with the last name of Stuart or Stewart. This marriage resulted in 2 children (Theresa and Robert). I do know there are still relatives in Fiji and would like to contact them. My great-grandfather's name was Frederick Fremlin and my great-grandmother's name was Teresa Marr. I tried looking up family records (such as birth, marriage, and death certificates) on The Church of Jeasus Christ of Latter Day Saints website but can not find anything. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated

I hope someone can help me. One of my relatives, Henry Fryer Peters, born 1852 in Rugby, England, spent around 4 years in Wainunu, Vanua Levu, Fiji, from about 1874 to 1879.

I understand that during this period he married Margaret Ann. Unfortunately, I do not have ner maiden name.

Can anyone suggest how I might discover her maiden name and anything else about their years in Fiji ?

Hi lam trying to trace information on my great uncle Denis Michael Mantell born sept 1906 in the uk. He married a flora Jane Mcleod Kerr in 1931 in Suva Fiji, but then she remarried in 1940 to a man named Maurice Kedgley. Apart from that bit of info I cant find anything else on Denis, it may have been that he had moved to Australia or new Zealand or he may have died before 1940. Suva records havent shown up any deaths for denis nor a divorce. On his marriage certificate his occupation is a herds tester. I would be very grateful for any information.

I am helping a friend find a missing member of his family, named Jamey RUSSELL, born in NZ in 1871, who went to Fiji around 1890. He worked as a carpenter for the government, building wharves, etc. Another member of the family worked with him for a few years, and he came home for a visit about 1930, but there was no contact after that.
The family would like to know when he died and where he is buried.
If there is anyone on the list who can help with information about this man, we would really appreciate hearing from you. If not, I would like some advice about applying to the authorities for a death certificate - will they do a search, what are the charges, etc.?

When and how did the ROUNDS family come to Fiji? Have lots of information from approx 1850's to the present day, but few dates.
Have little information on the WORK family. Fanny's mother was Amy, surname could be Wiltshire. Her father we think was named Wallace, died early 1920's. Where do I start?
Other names are: Hicks, Danford, Morrell, Dudley, Wedlock, Ram, Underwood.

My grandfather's cousin, Stanley Ronald EVANS (born in England in 1906), emigrated from England to Fiji. I understand that he worked at the airport.
I think he emigrated sometime after his parents died in 1949 . At some stage he also lived in the Cook Islands.

I don't know at present whether he had married, or when he died.

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who is able to provide any information about Stanley or his family.

His second marriage was to a Fiji princess from Verata named Adi Liku Tabua.

(We believe he was also married to a woman named Beddoes and possibly another woman named McCumber.)

"Old Man" Valentine and Adi Liku Tabua had a son named William Valentine.

Willliam Valentine married Adi Sereima Bolavou.

They had a daughter named Emmaline Valentine who married Frank Mitchell.

My husband's great great grandfather Benjamin Morris and his wife Anna were living in the Fiji Islands in the late 1800's. We have a death certificate belonging to a daughter of theirs (Isabel)who died on Wakaya Island at the age of 15 years. On the certificate it states that her father was the American Consulate or something of that nature.

My great great grandfather was Benjamin Morris (I read at familysearch.org that his middle name was Mason) who married a Rotuman woman named Sa'a and died in Rotuma. At http://peacecorpsonline.org/messages/messages/467/3293.html I read that he was cousin to Percy Atherton Morris, one of the founders of the famous MH's in Fiji. Does anyone know any further details about these cousins, like how/when they reached Fiji, their family (in the States, I presume) and their ancestors, with any references to source documents I can look up??

Was wanting any information regarding the Valentine Family that settled in Fiji.

I am a descendent of William Valentine originally sailed from South America to Fiji. He had two children - a son Stephen Valentine (married Louisa Jackson from Beqa, Fiji Islands) & a daughter Lydia Valentine (who became Mrs McComber)

I am descendent off Stephen's branch - he had five children, one of which is my great grandfather Frank Valentine, who married Melisi Edwards (Latu).

Obtaining Fiji marriage/death certificates

I am trying to find out what heppened to my Grandfather's cousin, Stanley Ronald EVANS. He was born in England in 1906, though later moved to Fiji, where he worked at the airport.
I understand that he also lived in the Cook Islands.

PLease could someone let me know how I would be able to obtain marriage/death details for him - I do not know of the dates.

I'm looking for any info on one Capt. William Driver a trader in sea cucumber in the 1820's and 30's. He was said to have settled in Fiji in the 1830's. Does anyone know which district he settled in? What the circumstances surrounding his settling in Fiji? Was he married to a Fijian woman and what her name was? And finaly, why he left?

Does anyone have any information on Denis Michael Mantell who married a Flora Jane Mcleod Kerr, They married in Suva 19th Nov 1931. He was born in the UK 1906 and Flora was born in Auckland in 1905, I believe she may have remarried in 1944 to a Maurice Fredric kedgley. I really would like to know any info on Denis Mantell as I don't seem to be able to locate any info on him, I have a fair bit of info on Flora.

Other Information: Frances Wall had at least one sibling, a sister named Rose.
Frances was probably married in Vanuatu or Fiji to a fellow by the surname WEITZEL. This marriage produced two male children who were probably born in Vanuatu but maybe in Fiji. The eldest boy was Abraham WEITZEL born circa 1903 and the youngest, my father, Eric Francis Sheradon St. Germaine WEITZEL born circa 1909.
The WALL/WEITZEL marriage was dissolved and Frances subsequently re-married a Harry F. KILLICK.
Somewhere in the WALL/WEITZEL years I believe that there was ownership of a beverage manufacturing plant (owned by the WALL side?).

Has anyone had any success in viewing BDM cert. held by the LDS? I have tried to order film from my local Family History Center and was told the film is "restricted" which means it can't be copied. If I want to see the film I have to go to Salt Lake City where the film is kept.

Okay now i have ran into a dilema and it involves me and my fiance.

Evidently a long time ago my great great uncle on my fathers side had an affair with a lady from a different state. The outcome was a baby girl. Even though my great great uncle and the woman that became pregnant never married the baby girl was brought into the world. This baby girl is my fiance's mother. Can someone break this down for me it has my fiance and myself all upset.

McGregor was son-in-law of Charles Ellis, who was wrecked somewhere in Fiji on the "Dot". They both lived on the Rewa in the Nausori area around the 1870s, but both left for other countries later. My wife is a descendant and I seek more information on their families.

I would like to know all details about this family. When they arrive in Fiji, how many times they stayed, when they leave Fiji. I think the father worked in sugar cane fields, but I'am not sure.

My greatgrandfather whose name was Suraiya boarded a ship from culcutta bound for Fiji between 1887 to 1920. I would like to ask for assistance in Shipping details, Names of Indians, and how to get more specific details in my search.

The other info i have is that Suraiya was from Guntoor Jila, Kakinada, ?? Hyderabadh and his fathers name was Dalaiya. He came from a rice farming background.

Please help me out to trace my roots... i would apperiate any input on this.

Currently i am the 4th generation in Fiji and hope to see if i can suceed in this.

"My name is Earl Eugene Schuster. In 1943, the US defence forces were in Fiji preparing to go off to the War, somewhere in the Pacific. Two of the US forces personnel, as was the custom, were welcomed into the local community. My parents were expecting their 2nd child at that time, so the 2 American men asked my parents, that if the child, which was shortly to be born, was a boy, would they name the child after them. The names of those 2 forces personnel were: EARL FOX & EUGENE WALKER. I am that boy child, that was born on 23rd June 1943, in Ba, FIJI. named EARL EUGENE SCHUSTER. I live in Sydney, Australia. My father, Hector Schuster, passed away in New Zealand in 1966, aged 49. My mother, Mary Schuster, is still alive, in Rotorua, New Zealand, aged 82. John Munro of Levuka

On the Levuka War memorial, the Colonial War Memorial Hospital Memorial Board, and the Book of Remembrance at Holy Trinity Church, Suva there is a John Munro listed as dead in WW1.

There is a John Munro listed as serving in the war on the Levuka Public School Great War Board

In the Auckland shipping records there is a John Munro, soldier, aged 24, born Levuka, arriving in Auckland in 1916.

However, although there are several John Munros in the NZ Army, none of them were born in Fiji, and the ones that died are definitely not born in Fiji.

Same with the Australian Army.

He was not in the Fijian contingents.

He could have been in the British Army, no records are available, but no John Munros fitting the description are listed as dead in the Commonwealth War graves.

No John Munro died in flu epidemic in Fiji in 1918.

Does anyone know anything about John Munro, or his family, or particularly his death? Or, have any ideas about some other way to find him?

She was Ellen ISHERWOOD or GREEN.
Father: George ISHERWOOD or GREEN
Mother: Ellen PAGAN/PEAGUM/PAGUM

Has anyone else come across this family? I have no idea when they arrived in Fiji or what ship they travelled on.

I have just found that my John Augustus GRIFFIN and a John Augustus ROSLER were both born in Fiji mid 1870's to 1880's.

Mr Rosler states his parents as John Rosler and Mary Ann Marshall. Mr Rosler senior was listed as a hotelkeeper.

Can anyone enlighten me on the best way to go from here to locate these Fijian people?

I am trying to find if there is a Pt Stephen in Fiji. I have information of the birth of Emma Cromarte (mother Caraline) born there in 1859. She was either part Fijian or Tongian.
She later married John Alfred JOYCE on 31 July 1878 and gave birth to John Daniel JOYCE in Levuka, Fiji on 14 December 1883. Any information on any of the above would be appreciated.

I am trying to find descendants or relations of Elenoa (Eleanor), who is reputed to have been a daughter of Seru Cakobau, Tui Viti by one of his unrecognised wives. Elenoa is believed to have married the Tui Cakau after giving birth to two children, a son and daughter, by the master mariner George Browning. Her son, George, was born in SomoSomo (Taveuni) around 1854. He emigrated to Australia as a five year old and raised a large family on the far north coast of New South Wales.
