I am a Taitingfong. I am listing my family as far back as I know. My father was Robert Taitingfong. He and his brother Anthony were adopted by their sister Maria Arnold while he was entering or in High school. Maria had a husband named Pat and children named Monique, Bernadette, Anessa and Cletus. My Aunt Rose was married to Lynn Finch and they had a daughter Frances. My Aunt Annie was married to Brian Proulx and their children were Michelle, Paul, Joseph, John, Matt and Edward. My Aunt Mae married Bob Roma and they had a son named Bobby. I know she had a daughter much much later. I know there are more aunts I just don't know them all ... Aunt Patsy was another. I know she was married and had children one may be named Patty or Patsy I am not sure.

My name is Fay C. Mesa and I am a family genealogist. My current project with much enthusiasm, is too document as many families along with their ancestors from Guam and to preserve the data by eventually publishing it in the near future.

I have a complete copy of Mr. Paul Souder work, which was written in the late 1970’s called, “Familian Chamarro” with this I have been able to data input over 8,000 Guamanians into my database. The database continues to grow day by day, with the collections from friends, Guam PDN obituaries, and relatives.

If anyone would like to contribute their lineage information and wish to become part of this wonderful project, please contact me at faed@verizon.net

Origin of Leon Guerrero Surname

In searching for the origin of the "Leon Guerrero" surname, I have been unable to find any mention of it in any Spanish related country. The surname "Leon" and the surname "Guerrero" are both listed individually, but not the combination of the two.

Does anyone have any insight into this matter?
Was it a name that was created there on Guam under the influence of the Spanish missionaries?

Hello, looking for information on the Sablan or Camacho families. My grandmother's maiden name is Camacho. She came to the United States from Guam when she was thirteen. I believe she was born in Agana. My grandfather I know very little about. He passed away several years ago in Guam. His name was Victor Sablan, Sr., and I know he was in the military, but I am not sure which branch. I think it may have been the Navy. My grandparents did not stay married; I only have communication with the children they had together. I know my grandfather remarried, and he had more children on Guam, but I know nothing about them. If anyone knows anything about any Sablan or Camacho families at all, any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for any info about biological father Jesus S. Camacho

I was conceived via an affair by my mother (Yueh Man Lin) and biological father (Jesus S. Camacho) in the early 1970's. My biological father was Roman Catholic, married, had 5 or so children, and was involved with Guam's government. There were numerous telegrams exchanged between my mother and biological father before and after my birth (May 1972). I also have pictures of my mother and biological father, and they seemed like they were really in love. My mother always told me that he was her true love. I was born in Taichung, Taiwan in 1972. My mother brought me to see my biological father when I was in middle school (mid 1980's). We went to his place of residence and was greeted by his wife who was very upset. A newspaper journalist helped my mother and I by arranging a neutral meeting place. I did meet my father. He died several years later when I was in high school. I really want to know all about my biological father and his ancestry. Please help if you can! My email address is idbenvs2@yahoo.com. I am not sure if I know how to get back to these boards, so please contact me via email. Thank you!

Linda

I am looking for information about the John Manibusan family in Guam. My great grandmother was Mary Drennan Manibusan born in Ireland. She married John/Juan Manibusan from Guam and they had 4 children in England. During the war, they left England for Guam with two of their children Joseph Drennan Manibusan and daughter Maria. Their oldest two sons, Anthony (my grandfather) and John had already joined the British Navy. My grandfather died believing his family was killed trying to get to Guam. However, I'm finding they made it to Guam. They are listed on the 1920 and 1930 census. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they also bombed Guam. Tragically, the names of my family members are listed on the Guam War Memorial. I'd like to know exactly what happend to them. The son Joseph survived and married a woman named Consolacio. They had 4 children John T, Vincent H, Alice D, and Albert D. I'm not able to find any of them. If anyone has any information please contact me. Thank you. Jamie Bolton-Ronacher jbronacher@yahoo.com
I am trying to help my 15yr old granddaughter locate her godfather, Emmett W. Pascual. His dad is John Salas who used to work for Hawaiian Rock Products. He spent some time here in Hawaii in 1989-91. He lived with us in Makakilo, Oahu. She has seen pictures of him and heard our stories and would very much like to write to him. He has a brother, Lester Pascual, sisters, Tina Quichocho, Therese Quidachay, Matilda Brooks, and half brothers, Vince and Ryan Salas. If there is anyone reading this that has any information or is able to get in touch with him, would you please tell him to contact Zaesha or Karen Gonsalves. Mahalo

ISO: DUENAS

Greetings,
Im planning a trip to Guam in July (2003) to hopefully meet some old family.
The knowledge of our family tree only goes back to my Grandfather. He
probably was born in Guam and was married in Guam but they eventually
moved to America. He died many years ago in his 70's I think. That would
put his birth around the 1910 time period.

They said the Duenas family was very well known in Guam. I presume
there is still a branch of Duenas's living there. Juan Duenas had two sons
who grew up in San Diego (I think) - Frank and Gabe.

Even if you dont know these particular Duenas's but you know about the
Duenas family in Guam, please fill me in. Hopefully I can learn about the
Duenas family when I visit in July.

So why is my last name NOT Duenas? Its a long story - I'll tell ya about it
later if you really want to know.

Thanks so much,
abb.

If anyone would like to contribute their lineage information and wish to become part of this wonderful project, please contact me at any of the email addresses;
fmesa@guamgenealogy.com ; faed@verizon.net; fmesa@jaeoregon.com
From what I know she was born on Guam in March 25 1957, came to the States when she was 12 years old. She had two younger sisters, Julie and Jackie that came with her and her mother Berneditte or Bernaditte. I don't know the spelling, I know my twin sister and I were named after the father's mother and my mom's mother. I know I have an aunt name Debbie Toves. I hope this information is helpful.
Thank you
Thomasina

Hafa adai,

My name is Fred Nelson and I lived on Guam (Pale Ferdinan Way aka Sumay Memorial Drive, Santa Rita) for 20 years.

I also worked at KUAM on and off for 15 years - so long that I became their unofficial historian.

Although I am now living in Washington, DC, I am compiling historical notes and anecdotes for a KUAM Reunion and History Website.

Do you have any memories of KUAM that you would like to share? People, places, pictures, etc. The further back the better. I am primarily interested in memories involving KUAM in the 50's, 60's and 70's, although any era would be helpful. They could be any sort of memory you've got - no matter how small you think it is, it would be of great help to me!

Please post anything you think might be helpful to me as a reply to this post or email me at hrhhenryviii@mac.com

Si Yuus Maase and best wishes,

Fred Nelson

Hello,

I am looking for a cousin of my great-grandfather. His name was Heinrich Soya and he, according to an old diary emigrated to "Australia or one of the pacific [German] colonies". That was around 1860. Since he apparently didn't arrive in Australia, he possibly went to one of the islands.
You can see the pedigree at www.vogel-soya.de/Soya.html

Regards,

I.
Hello!
I'm looking for people who know about or are related to Dr.Ramon Sablan from Sinajana or Agana, who was probably born around 1900 give or take 10 years. He was a teacher and went to college somewhere in america and got his MD.

I have a letter my Great Grandfather Bill Green wrote Nov 19 1945, he was in China during WWII working for the UNRRA. He had worked in Guam in the 1920's for agriculture work and made many friends there. And because of a mistake he endded up in Guam again. While there he wrote about his old friends he ran into. and a story of his friend Manuel Chafauros who helped the town of Marizo? (sp?) get freed the day before the GI came. if anyone knows about these people please tell me. My Great Grandfather loved Guam so much he was devestated when he saw the villages that were detroyed and hearing of friends he had lost.
I want to know as much as possilbe about these people and places he loved.
thank you.
Taking Pride

I live in Gulfport, Mississippi. Down here there are about 40 Chamoru people. We always have Chamoru parties and we talk about how great it is that we have such a strong culture. We have a Chamoru Club down here and we are always looking for new people that reside here. The Chamoru Culture is still standing strong. I just wanted to tell all the Chamoru people that think otherwise. We are Chamoru decendents in our heart that makes us Chamoru people. So many people are mixed and they are still proud of who they are. One of my cousins is only 1/8 chamoru... but she still is proud she has that much in her and still takes pride in who she is. What I am saying here is that it is great to know where your roots came from or where your language came from... but always remember who you are... for example... that lady who wrote that comment says that she is Guamanian... well Guamanian is for those who don't take pride in being Chamoru. I can't believe someone would feel that way. But I can't help what people say. I am Chamoru... no one will take that away.

I am looking for any information on Stanley Freeman Aubrey. He was born late 1880's in New York State, orphaned by 1904, was in the military for WWI, was in the Philippines in 1918 when his Aunt/Guardian died, and settled in Guam. He was married and had at least 1 daughter. The family was captured by the Japanese during WWII, interred, and upon release, were brought to a VA hospital in California to recuperate. He then returned to Guam, after calling my Grandmother, and disappeared. I found out through Veterans Affairs that he died in 1956, but due to loss of records, they could not tell me where.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Birthmother info

I was recently told that the Guamanian tradition was to give a child the mothers middle name when born....I only have my mothers 1st name . Which I am told was Patty, and her mothers 1st name was Nancy. I was born 9-18-49. Even though it has been years past, I am still hopeful that someone out there will remember hearing of a relative going to California to give birth. My feeling is that my mother still lives in the San Luis Obispo area, and that I will find her someday. If anyone has any ideas, or can offer some helpful hints, I will be waiting to hear from you.........Thank you in advance....................Debbie

Is there anyone out there who knows what part the civil service played in Guam during the 1940's. My mother was from Guam, and my father I am told was an American in the Civil Service. I am very proud of my heritage, and would like to learn more. My mothers first name was Patty, and her mother's name was Nancy. I have no last names. I am told that they moved to California in 1949 when I was born. I have no idea if they moved back to Guam, or still have relatives in Guam. If you have nay ideas please contact me....Thank you.

Does anybody out there really believe that the word Chamorro is rooted in and indigenous to Guam?

(Many) Guamanians honestly believe this to be fact beyond the shadow of doubt. I do not...and I am Guamanian.

Guam and it's people are unique and proud

I was born and raised on Guam. I've been reading these messages on the message board and I can't believe all the crap people have written against the word Chamorro. I believe that this is the most beautiful island. Guam is my home and my families true home. It may not be perfect, but our culture and our traditions are still strong. Our language my be borrowed and so on, but our respect for our island and it's people is what makes Guam beautifl and perfect in everyway! The word Chamorro is a word that we call ourselves with alot of pride and respect. To me it doesn't matter where it comes from all that matters is that the word Chamorro is about family. The biggest and strongest word on Guam. Families don't really mean that much in the United States as it does on Guam. On Guam families are there for eachother through thick and thin. No matter what family is what Chamorros' really take pride in. We would not let our family starve or kick them out and just say good luck because that person couldn't graduate or be what this world wants him to be. Family is what Chamorro should really mean. And if people wants to call themselves Guamanian because they don't know where the word Chamorro comes from well... Guamanian is an Americanized version of the word Chamorro. I think it was made up for people who are confused about who they are and I think it's also for people who don't really like the Chamorros' or their ways. I am a Chamorro true and PROUD!! For you Chamorros out there that are no longer Chamorros, but are now Guamanian, don't start talking about the word that we still take alot of pride in!!

1949 San Luis Obispo, CA birth

My story goes back to 1949. I was born in San Luis Obispo California in that year. I am told that my mother (whos name was Patty) and her mother (whos name was Nancy) came to California so that I could be born and adopted from there. Nancy (my grandmother) was married to a man named Don Schroeder, and he was also my father. His family lived in the San Luis Obispo area. My birth father has since died. I would like very much to find my birth mother. She was very young at the time of my birth maybe 13 even. If there is anyone out there who maybe could have heard some of this story from years ago please e-mail me. Thank you so much. Debbie

I am the wife of Frank Fritz in the USA. His father George Franklin Fritz has had several marriages and several kids. Just recently we found two more girls, that put us up to around 11 kids found. We are told there are more. We are told while he was in Guam he had a son. All we know is born sometime around 1956. George was in the navy and was on USS CoralSea. We would like to know where this son is and his name. His father is still alive and lives in West Virginia. Please let me know if you know anything about this. Thanks.
