I have not had any luck finding the family in Wellington, apart from one reference to Leonard passing a music exam:http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&...
To get ages, I found the family in the 1911 UK Census. Listed with the family was another son, George Robert NORTON, who was 3 months old at the time of the census. However he didn't appear on the passenger list for the Arawa that his mother & brother came out on.
The first record I can find of the family is in Hamilton:
Electoral Rolls 1925, 1928 & 1935 - Hamilton electorate:
Norton, Albert, Tramway Rd, Claudelands, painter
Norton, Annie, Tramway Rd, Claudelands, married
1935 is the first year that Leonard appears on the rolls.
He appears in the Raglan electoral roll as follows:
Norton, Leonard Albert, Paterangi, Ohaupo, farm hand
Also in Raglan is the following:
Norton, George Robert, Mill Rd, Ohaupo, farm labourer
Leonard then appears in the 1935 Hamilton Electorate Supplementary roll as a joiner living with this parents.
The 1938 Hamilton electoral roll has the family back living together in Tramway Road, Albert is a painter, Leonard a joiner and George is a painter.
In 1939, Leonard married Phyllis Helen LAMBERT (folio 10474)
The 1946 electoral Piako roll is interesting (same house, just an electorate boundary change). The family are at Tramway Road as follows:
Albert - painter
Annie - married
George Robert - painter
Leonard Albert - joiner
Phyllis Helen - married
Stanley - moulder
Now just who Stanley is, I'm not sure? Maybe they had another child after their arrival in NZ? The rolls are exactly the same in 1949.
George Robert does not appear to have married. He died in 1952 and was buried at Hamilton East cemetery.http://www.hamilton.co.nz/our-services/do-it-online/cemetery...
(Have some further info but have to go - will post again later)
