ANDERSEN - Tvis, Hammerum, Ringkobing, DEN

Classification: Query
Surnames: Andersen, Nielsen, Hansen, Larsen, Jensen
Searching for the family of my great-grandfather, Steffen Andersen. Steffen was born 24-May-1867 at Tvis. I have a copy of his birth certificate, which indicates that his parents were Anders Peder Andersen and Marie (Marne) Kirstine Nielsen, of Linholt Field at Tvis. Steffen was baptized in the Tvis Church on 10-Jun-1867. Steffen was vaccinated (I have that record, also) 5-Sep-1872 at Tvis.

Steffen had several siblings. I know this from letters written by his sister, but she never mentioned any names, except one. Her name was Karen Kirstine Andersen, and she married Bertel Jensen sometime between 1903 and 1904 (in Denmark). They had a small farm, it seems. Some of her letters are marked "Refning in Vinding, via Holstebro in Jutland" and "Virkelyst in Aulum, via Herning, Jutland, Denmark." The only sibling that Karen specifically mentions in her letters to Steffen is a brother by the name of Niels.

Both Steffen and Niels emigrated from Denmark to America. Steffen did so sometime around 1884, or so. Steffen was naturalized at the District of Washington (now Washington State) on 10-Jul-1896. I know nothing about Niels, except that he was married and had at least one male child, Detmer.

Steffen married Annie (Ana, Ane) Carie Hansen in Seattle, WA, USA on 25-Aug-1894. Hansen was Annie's stepfather's name; she was actually born Larsen. She emigrated with her family from Nykobing (I don't know which one) sometime between 1880 and 1881.

Steffen and Annie had the following children, all at Seattle:
Earl Andersen (b. 1898)
Leo Andersen (b. about 1900)
Stanley Andersen (b. about 1903)
Hazel Andersen (b. 1905)
Margrede (Margaret) Andersen (b. 1907)
June Andersen (b. 1910)
Steffen Andersen, Jr. (b. 1913)
Mabel Andersen (b. 1916)

If this family sounds at all familiar to anyone out there, please do contact me. I know virtually nothing about my great-grandfather's origins and family members. And, I wonder whether I have distant cousins somewhere in Denmark? There are many relatives here, mostly born to the children and grandchildren of Steffen and Annie.

Very best wishes,
Beth Bullard-Watson
