We're looking for the ancestry of Jorgen HANSEN, who was 44 when he came to America, arriving in New York, 28 May 1882, on the Geyser from Copenhagen, with wife Karen, 50, & sons Svend Peter & Hans David. The church record of her death says Karen Kirstine Sorenson Hanson d. 21 Nov. 1894 and was buried in Lake Albert Cemetery (which nobody has yet identified). Hans David married in 1893, and he & Svend Peter also died in 1894 of diphtheria.
Another record indicates that Karen, nee NIELSEN, was widow of Soren HANSEN, who died in Jan. 1865, Denmark, and then Karen m2. Jorgen HANSEN.
The information for the death certificate of Jorgen HANSEN was provided by his second wife Hansine, b. ca. 1859/60. Thus, we're not sure that his parents were Hans HANSEN & Maren FREDERICKSON, as she reported. We think that he might have been Jorgen HANSEN, b. 17 Nov. 1837, bpt. 14 Jan. 1838, Utterslev, Maribo (now Storstrom County), Denmark, s/o Hans Jorgensen WALDEMAR & Maren Johanne CHRISTENSDTR [FamilySearch.org, Danish records].
Jorgen HANSON patented, 23 Apr. 1891, in Hamlin County, SD, Norden Twp., 113 - 53, Section 31 NE.
Census of 1900, Hamlin Co., SD, Jorgen HANSEN, b. ca. 1838; Hansine, 1859; Christ, 1883; Carl, 1884; James F., 1890; Rasm. Peder, 1896; Frederick, 1898; & Maren, 1900.
Christ, Carl, and James were probably Hansine's sons by a prior marriage.
Census of 1910, Hamlin Co., SD, Jorgen HANSEN, b. ca. 1838; Hansine, 1860; Peter, 1897; Fred, 1898; Mary K., 1900; Hans J., 1904. In 1920, they were still of Hamlin Co., but Mary K./Maren was not in the household. SD Births shows that Jorgen HANSEN & Hansine CHRISTENSEN had dau. Maren, b. 29 Mar. 1900, Hamlin Co., SD.
