Dear Flemming Aasklint
Thank for you for your 4 e-mails with all that information,& all the research & time which you have spent. Also, thanks for the Census & Marriage translation from Danish to English,it will be a very great help.
I had been searching for the Danish connection for a long time & due to the English Clerks, regestering new imigrants on arrival in Australia, they recorded names & places by what they thought they sounded like & not what the correct spelling is & it has really led us up the proverbial garden path.
I notice that Jens Frederick Jessen's mother's name was Christiane MORTENSEN. On the 12th January,2008 there was a posting on the message board from Anne MORTENSEN listing information, in Danish, about Jens Frederick Jessen & Gertrude BRUUN. I wonder if she is also related? At the bottom of her post was this - "Redigeret 1 gang(e). Sidst aendret 12/1/2008 23:03 af Anne Mortensen - 2770." is this her contact? I understand that it is a longshot but maybe you may know Anne.
There seems to be a difference in your marrige records & the Australian records on a couple of items. My copy of my grandmother's (Jessie Delane ROSENDAHL) birth certificate states that her parents, Jens' & Gertrude's wedding date as 22nd February,1870.
I have also seen on a shipping notice that Jens & Gertrude departed Hamburg,Germany on the 21st March,1871 on the ship "Shakespeare" arriving in Maryborough,Queensland, Australia on 3rd August,1871. On board ship Gertrude gave birth to a son,Ludwig in The Great Australian Bight. He also died on the ship.
You may like to add that little bit of information to your records if you like.
