Brian,

Thank you so much. That explains things a bit. I was a bit confused by this one as I found what I am fairly sure is the same couple on the 1890 census (living at Larsbjørnstræde 21) with a son named Laurits Christian Hansen (of the right age to be the son that emigrated with the widowed Anna and Elna to the US in 1902). The 1890 census shows Oscar and Anna as married, and then Elna's birth record has that they didn't marry until 2 years after her birth. The census must be wrong. I'm curious about the older son, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find Laurits Christian Hansen's birth or confirmation records. (Could be that my eyes just had glazed over from scanning the records and I missed it. He was born 11 July 1883 according to Oscar Robert Hansen's politietsregister if anyone would like to look :-D )

And you are correct about her name, don't know how I missed that.

Thanks once again,

Jo Murphy
