My Great x2 Grandfather was born in Denmark and became a British citizen in about 1845. His name was John Johnson (Johannsen) and he went on to become a Master Mariner living with his family in Penzance, Cornwall.
Does anyone know if, when he became British, he had to renounce his Danish citizenship and if so did he have to sign papers accordingly?
Where would these papers be lodged?
Would any papers show where he was born and lived as I am trying to trace his, and my, roots in Denmark.
