Thank you for your help, yes I'm an american male, headed to Denmark this summer to see the places my family is from. Rasmus came to Deer Lodge(commonly called "Powell", or "Cottonwood" in censuses)to apprentice as a blacksmith. He's my great grandfather but unfortunatly unlike his wife Minnie, I've had a hard time tracking back any further than him and have not been able to come up with his birth place. I have several relatives that came over from Denmark, most in the 1850's when they migrated with the Mormons. My branch of the Hansen's left the Mormons and settled in the Deer Lodge valley in the 1860's. Rasmus was a second wave that came over to thier relatives who had settled in Montana. Am I right in assuming that these little towns that have "Odense" in the titles, were outlying little towns that surrounded Odense? That's what they look like on the maps.
