Charles Bern was my great grandfather, his son Arnold, my grandpa. My grandpa said his dad grew up in Malmo, Sweden but maybe he was born in Denmark & later moved there. It's the same Charles you are looking for. He was married a couple times both wives had same name Pariscovia. My family is from Seward. Charles left his first set of kids in an orphanage after wife died & never returned apparently. My grandpa said him and his brothers were also left at an orphanage for a month or so at a time after his mom died of TB. When his dad would work in a mill I believe. He obviously came back for them though. What's funny is that I've been told my whole life that I was Swedish & Alaskan native, when actually I'm Danish apparently. Hope this puts some pieces together for you.
