Neither Poland nor Lithuania existed as independent nations from 1795 to 1918. It wasn't until the 1920 U.S. Census that either country could be listed as "Place of Birth". At best, you would see "Russia Poland" listed as a birthplace.

Have you found the arrival of the ancesotrs into the U.S. that were born 1882/1883? I'm guessing they emigrated to the U.S., correct? If so, have you found their arrival information?

My grandfather was an ethnic Lithuanian and when he was born in 1889, his village was in the Suwalki/Suvalkija gubernia (Russian for province). That gubernia was the northern most one of ten gubernias/provinces that comprised Russia Poland or the "Kingdom of Poland" that was headed by the Russian czar.

Today, the northern area of the Suwalki gubernia is in Lithuania and the southern half (inclduing the provincial capital of Suwalki/Suvalkija) is in Poland.
