Yes, that is my grandfather Harold Johnson's brother. Also traveling with them was my great-uncle Carl. I have a copy of the page you linked, as it proves the trip back from Fredrikstad. I did consider that Nils might be from Fredrikstad, and many other places as well, and have been combing the Digitalarkivet for him, as well as his parents. It appears that there was no Nils Johnson (or any other spelling)that can be accounted for being born in Norway in 1863. We know that he was not very strict about dates....I found two different marriages between couples who match his parents' names in the right time period on familysearch.org, but can find no record of them in the 1865 Census, and I've covered a lot of it. Do you know how thorough the censuses were? Was it easy for a person to be overlooked, or to evade it?
