It is a small world, indeed. When I was growing up in Minnesota I used to joke that I was related to half of southern Minnesota with all of my Norwegian relatives. As I continue to explore the collateral lines the more I realize the truth there ... (still an exaggeration of course). Emigrants did tend to travel with friends and relatives and/or to settle in the areas where other friends/relatives were already living.
