Bev, once again, thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate your explanation of the marriage record. I am getting good at finding the records (I found all 3 census records too), but have trouble reading the farm names and figuring out which one is the birthplace & which one was just the residence.

From what I found though, Maren was not born in Laurdal. The 1865 census states she was born in Modum. The 1875 census states she was born in Sandsvær/Efterlød. The marriage record states Laurdal Prestegjeld.
I found Maren's baptismal record in Modum parish records. Baptized in Nykirke parish. The family moved back & forth between Vestfold County & Buskerud County. From Lardal to Modum, then back to Lardal, then to Kolsrud.
Maren was the only child of 6 children not born in Lardal.

I followed Maren's family backwards to Laurdal (Vestfold County) and found the following in chronological order.......

24 Juni, 1836...Marriage of Gulbrand Mathisen (resideng at?)Lie og Gunnild Marie Kittelsdt (born?) nedre Berg....

Gulbrand & Gunnild had a child Mathias born in Laurdal 17 Martz 1837....

The Lardal parish migration records show Gulbrand, Gunnild, & son Mathias leaving Lardal & going to Modum 28 Martz, 1838.....

The Modum parish record shows Maren born 4 Juli, 1839, baptized in Nykirke parish. I think this record shows Maren's father Mathias as born? in Lie, but residing? in Hulbak

Then the Buskerud County Modum parish Emigration records show Gulbrand, Gunnild, Maren & Mathias leaving Hulbak for Lardal 10 April, 1841, 1 day before Gunnild gave birth to another son, born in Lardal.

Then the family moved back to Buskerud County. The Sandsvær, Parish migration records show the whole family, minus the oldest son Mathias, moving to Kolsrud from Laurdal, in 1853 (18/10/1853?). The parents are listed on the first link, the children on next page, second link....

I lost track of the whole family in the 1875 census, except for Maren now married to Mathias Thorsen. Maybe the rest of the family moved back to Laurdal. I don't see the 1875 census available for Vestfold County.
