In reviewing the confirmation link you provided, I read Johannes' birth/baptism year as 1815, not 1816. Using April 1815 as the starting point, and the parents Ole Johannesen and Helvig Olsdatter, I found the following (page 23, entry #33):

I think my husband has relatives from the same farm. From what I can tell its called Faldaasen in Aasnes, Hedmark. If you look up Faldaasen, Hedmark on Google Maps you will see where the farm is located. This meshes with the location information I've found for my husband's family, Christian Christiansen Falaasen (spelled various ways, now Fallos), on Norway's Digital Archives (see the 1865 Census for Hedemarks Amt). Does this sound like the place you are looking for?

Maria Olsdatter Skybak (from Åsnes?)

In the previous post on Peder Pedersen Ruud, I indicated he was married to Maria Olsdatter Skybak. I believe she was baptised in Lille Sonsterud on 20 September 1722 and born to Arne Halvorsen and Maren Jonsdatter. Her first husband was Kjell Arnesen Skybak. Kjell died July 13 1753 at Skybak. Maria then married Ole Olsen Melsnes (Ole Olsen II) who was baptised 26 September 1728. His parents are listed as Ole Olsen Melsnes and Marte Larsdatter Østby. The parents of Ole Olsen I may have been Ole Håkonsen Melsnes and Mari Svensdatter (this last bit from Åsnesboka) Confirmation? Correction?

Peder Pedersen Ruud in Våler parish

Have been working on a set of 6th generation ancestors from Våler and surrounding areas. One of them is a certain Peder Pedersen Ruud born in 1755 and died 9 September 1830 (buried 17 September). This Peder was married to Maria Olsdatter Skybak (see 2nd post). The line I've set up has this Peder born 3 May 1755 to Peder Pedersen and Kari Olsdatter, who were married 6 May 1753. Peder Pedersen I baptised 10 April 1730, father Peder Arnesen, baptised 23 February 1710, father Arne Berg. However, there was another Peder Pedersen Ruud born 1 June 1755 to Peder Toresen and Rønnou Engebretsdatter. I'm not certain, but don't think the second alternative is as likely. Can anyone either confirm or correct my conclusion?

According to family, Birte's brother was Carl Olson Sundby. I found that he was supposely born in Naanestad about Feb.1865. He married Gunhilde Moen and died in Stoughton, WI. When Birte's son came over (my great grandfather, Ole) I believe his sponsor was his "Uncle" Carl. (I am at work right now so doing this from memory).

Looking back at the birth record for Birte Kristine Olsdatter......

Among her sponsors are: Kristian Olsen Sundby and Lars Kristiansen Sundby.

There is a farm called Sundby in Nannestad. In the 1865 census, neither a Kristian Olsen nor a Lars Kristiansen is listed there.

Neither of Birte's parents are shown as being from Sundby when Birte was born. The name does seem to come from the farm Sundby in Nannestad, Akershus, but I can't determine what the connection might be.

I can not find Birte or her parents in Nannestad in the 1865 census.

When you gave me Birte's name, I wondered how the name Sundby came to play. Ole was sponsored by Ole Sundby - who was supposedly Birte's brother. I wonder if they are actually half-siblings since she was out-of-wedlock...

The family rumor was that Helena lied about her age so her husband, Paul did not know that she was older than him so I don't know if this is her true birthdate.

Their dates (as far as I know)

Kristian Haavelsen - b. est. 1851; d. 2/1936 in Wisconsin
Birte Sundby - b. 1855; d. 9/23/1927 in Wisconsin

I got these names when trying to research their childrens birth records in Norway. My great grandfather Ole was born in the Ringsaker area.

Kristian become Christin Holverson and Birte became Christine.

Ole was sponsored by a Sundby relative (Birte's brother)when he came over in 1904 with his first wife, Thera and their daughter. Thera died a year later.

In the census records, Kristin and Birte with their daughter, Helena came over in 1907, but have not been able to find passenger record on them.

Hi,

I am trying to track down my great grandfather, Ole Christenson. I know that he has used a few different spellings for his name: Kristianson and Christianson.

His parents, Kristian Holverson and Christina Sundby came to the US with his sister, Helena. I believe they were from the Ringsaker area. Is there a way to track them down? Ole was married with a little girl. Ole came to the US in 1904.

Information under Bratlien (Nes Bygdebok 3 page 708) lists his birthplace as Ringsaker in 1823.

Information under Rognstad (Nes Bygebok 3 page 657) lists his birthplace as Brottum in 1822.

Neither lists his parentage.

I am looking for birth info of Christian Svendsen. His farm is shown as Bratlien in marriage to Agnette Olsdatter on 10 Feb 1850. Christian's age is shown as 29.His father is shown as Svend, surname looks like Werns but difficult to read. I do not believe he was baptised in Nes as I have searched baptisms from 1818 to 1823. 2 children born in 1851 and 1854 shown as Bratlien. Christian and Agnette are living on Rognstad farm in Nes 1865 census. Agnette born on Kvarnvolden farm in 1822, father Ole Jorgensen (born 1787-1859), Mother Anne Christophersdatter (born 1788). Agnette's parents seem to have moved to different farms also
Christian, Agnette and son Martin (born 1863) in 1880 census in Turner Cty, Dakota territory.
Hope I have given you enough to make the search easy.

It is almost always better to confirm research with the original records instead of the "Bygderboker". Names and dates in the books are often wrong or incomplete.

Christen Rasmussen and Alis Simonsdtr

Hello!

Looking for more information on this family as well as the previous post I just made. This is what I know about this family:

Christen Rasmussen was married twice. First he was married to Marie Larsdtr in about 1793 (I'll need to try and find the marriage), and 2nd to my ancestor on 04 Apr 1814 to Alis Simonsdtr Halseth Høyby. Christen died 26 Jun 1825 in Halseth (page 270 in Ringsaker Book) and it says he was born in Lom!

Alis (Ahles, Ales) died 23 Feb 1820 on Halseth aged 40. I had a hard time reading her death record.

I may have found Christen in Lom, I found a Christen being born to Rasmussen Stengård on 02 Apr 1769. I believe this is Rasmus Pedersen married to an Ingeborg Christensdtr Grevelstad on 03 Jun 1762 in Lom. It seems like he would fit, as in the 3rd Bygdebok on page 308 it mentions that he left for Hedmark, albeit in 1805, but at least the location matches? This also matches as his first daughter not named after his first wife's mom is Ingeborg.

What I'd like to know is:
1) Confirm Christen Rasmussen's parentage, and learn more about his parents.
2) Know when and where and to whom Alis Simonsdtr was born.

Trying to locate more information on my ancestors. This is what I know:

Michel Christenssen was married twice, first to Clare Johansdtr as Michel Christenssen Tande on 23 Jan 1744 (page 199 in Ringsaker Book) and they had one child that I know of = Johannes Michelsen born on nedre Åsen.

Second, he was married to my ancestor Anne Joensdtr Tande and this time he was living on nedre Åsen. They only had one child that I know of, my ancestor, Haagen Michelsen born again on nedre Åsen.

As for my ancestor Anne I know that she passed away on 02 Apr 1806 (page 134 in Ringsaker Book). Some of her record is hard for me to decipher, so maybe a clue will be in there, but per this record I interpreted that she was born in 1717. I also saw her in the 1801 census but her husband wasn't there so I assume he passed away by then.

What I'd like to know is this:
1) When and where did Michel Christenssen die? I have searched the following:
a)Searched and Haagen is their first child. Started searching again in 1769 through 1774 and found no children so far.
b) Searched the Death records from 1766 through 1803 and found no death in the Ringsaker Parish.
c) Searched the Death records from 1801 through 1814 and found no death in the Ringsaker Parish.
2) When and where was Michel Christenssen born?
3) Who were Michel Christenssen's parents?
4) Who were Anne Joensdr's parents? Also confirming whether she was born on Tande, or just on Tande when she was married?

As I looked at the marriage records, I did notice an Amund Christenssen who was from Lillehammer in Oppland when he was getting married just about the same time as Michel's 2nd marriage. If they happen to be brothers, maybe Michel was located in Oppland at times? I did start searching Fåberg a little, but they could also be in Biri or any number of parishes, or then again somewhere else in Hedmark?

Anyway, if anyone can help me find my ancestors that would be great!

Mrs. Poola (sic) Strom Oleson, widow of Frank Oleson, pioneer Seattle attorney, died today in her home, 23 West Newell Street. She had been ill three years. Funeral services will be held at 4:40 o’clock Saturday at the Bonney Watson Funeral Parlors.

Mrs. Oleson, 75 years old, moved to Seattle in 1888 from Omaha. She was active in the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Norwegian Hospital Association.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Mildred E. Oleson, Ontario, Oregon and four sons, Frank, Alfred C. and Harold Oleson, Seattle and Thomas R. Oleson, Boston.

This is eleven years late, but maybe you are still listening :)
I am a descendant of Lars Nielsen from Ringsaker in Hedmark, born 1805. Lars was most likely related to Johannes Nielsen Senstad, perhaps brothers.
Lars Nielsen from Lille Aarsrud was my great great great grandfather.

Bernt Johannesen Refset and Alette Bredesdatter Bjerke were married on 02 Jan 1866 in Grue, Hedmark, Norway. They had 1 child.

2. Brede Gundersen Ramsøyen son of Gunder Gulbrandsen Nes and Ragnild Olsdatter Bjørneby was born on 24 Oct 1820 in Ramsøen, Brandval, Hedmark, Norway.

I would love to know if any of my Sjoli descendants still are in the area. They were from the Sjolironningen farm, 1865 Norwegian Census, and my great-grandmother, Pauline Sjoli (p. 511-525 in the Asnesboka, especially page 514). Her father was Martinus Olsen, and mother was Olianna Arnesdatter. Eline, Ole, Arne, Oline, Pauline, Olivia, Magnus, came to Minneapolis. Pauline came in 1879 after her marriage in Asnes to Martin Olsen Wester. My next step would be to contact any living ancestors, then arrange for a trip to Norway. What do you think?
